I love how it's being assumed already what she'll be like with Dan.
Can everyone just be reminded that this is the show that had Emma Bunton as a judge for two series, a woman that can't skate (unlike Hayley) and I'm pretty certain could never dance as well as her either. And she hardly had the personality of someone loved by all. So, on that basis, it's a step up from some line-ups (we could add Ruthie here too - I just shudder at the thought).
I'd rather have Katarina, but it could be worse. Having Jason back counters any negative feeling for me.
So Hayley will be a better judge than Emma Bunton. Is that the best argument for her inclusion? Talk about damning with feint praise.
The thinking behind her inclusion is exactly the same as per Bunton though. ITV insulting our intelligence by thinking we need a celeb as a judge.
It's not the best argument, but it's still an argument Not that we know how she'll be yet (is this actually confirmed?) and I'd like to add I think it's a silly choice too - she is not a celebrity really either, so it's not the exact same thinking as the Bunton hiring, more her association with the show/skating/dancing, which is at least ten times that of Bunton, even if not so well known (but known to all viewers of the show).
So, yeah, not great, but I think Bunton and Ruthie were worse. On paper, we will see how Hayley comes across.
I suspect the only reason the utterly wonderful Katarina isn't back is because the language barrier really was absurd at times.

Know what you mean. I shudder at the thought of Ruthie too!
Why is it desperate to have Haley as a Judge? I think its a good choice, she can skate and can see thinks from a skaters angle, unlike Jason who knows sod all about skating and not much more about dancing!
Indeed they have tried all the other angles. Ruthie is a top musical theatre performer with vast dancing and acting credibility. People didn't like her because she criticised their favourites for wooden acting, and pointed out that people with no fanbase were aftually better. She couldn't sway the vote by posing as the contestants friend and, although she could provide the mssing general overview, people didn't like critical marking.
They then tried Emma who is massively popular, but not with some of the DOI demographic, and had enough appropriate experience to judge what a good performance from a general perspective. She did a good job of overcoming the anti-judge vote and getting rid of the hopeless cases by turning the vote against them.
They then eventually replaced Karen and Nicky, whose marking was respectively bland and random, with Katerina who was better but really only repeated Robin's view when she didn't have an odd episode of randomness. Katerina also was meant to be a part replacement for Emma as the people's voice and generalist - but she really couldn't fit that role because she was unknown and a professional skater and not an actor or producer. The show doesn't need two solo specialists judging whats essentially a very different set of skills on a different TV medium.
They finally replaced Jason with Louie who was also meant to part fill Emma's role as the friendlier judge. he avoided commenting on the skating - except when he did - and he lacked any general perspective and often ended up on irrelvant minutiae. He was safer than Jason, but tjhe show lost most of its panto feel.
Now Jason is back to add some general perspective and bring back the panto. That means they need someone to be the friendly constructive judge again to balance him. Someone who has done the show and can understand the contestant's perspective and show workings , and who is popular would fill that niche. They might be able to shape the vote too if it becomes too deviant. Equally they need someone who can bring a general entertainment perspective and Hayley or (Suzanne) would have enough stage and acting experience for that. Both would also have the advantage that they can skate better than most people on the show ever will.
Their big problem left though is Robin being the only skating judge. He increasingly marks as if it was an individual figure skating not a pairs dancing competition, and continues to overmark males who can do moves that he would. They really need a judge who knows more about acting and dancing with a partner.

Nah - people didn't like Ruthie because she marked people based on whether she liked them or not. She gave good marks to the men she fancied, and slagged off Roxanne Pallett every week she was on the show, when even Jason acknowledged that he was impressed by her progress. IMO, she was the worst judge ever on DOI!
As for Hayley - let's give her a chance people, she might be crap, she might be good, who knows?
If we're getting Hayley why cant we have Laura Hamilton or someone not annoying haha
Laura is a LOT more annoying than Hayley IMO! Plus of course there's the small matter of Laura not winning her series... and in any case, would she turn up!?

Hayley bugged me and wasn't even the best in the series, Laura was and Laura was a likeable person and I think would be better

That's only your opinion though, and I think that series and tour voting results suggest that Hayley would be a more popular choice with the majority of the public.
I accept that opinions differ, but I'm less accepting when people criticise someone and then defend their favourite as if it's a fact. I liked Laura on DOI but went off her later on, my impression of her was that her 'likeability' was all an act and once DOI had boosted her profile she didn't care about it or the fans anymore.

I gave her a chance when Dan got landed with her, my first instincts were proved right, she's a bully, tells lies to get her own way and is NOT a nice person, DOI can do without people like her IMO.

I try to judge people on how I see them myself, and therefore I'm personally willing to give Hayley the benefit of the doubt. If others have issues with her, fair enough, but I have no reason to dislike her, and I consistently enjoyed her performances on DOI. I did the same with Laura and was left disapointed, hence now I don't like her.
Jai Ho was the only outstanding routine from Hayley and overall I think Clare Buckfield and Suzanne Shaw produced more high quality routines than Hayley. I think they will probably have higher series averages. I would have preferred either of them as the female judge; but really a professional ice skater or female ice dancer would have been a better choice.

Fair enough comment that. Maybe they could have got a familiar DOI pro skater to be a judge, if they wanted someone who viewers already know? Frankie could have been an interesting choice, and judging by some of her tweets during the last series, Katie Stainsby would be very entertaining on the panel!
Dont see why they dont just put Karen back on the panel
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
That is one of the very few things that could actually ruin DOI for me, she is so biased towards her favourites its beyond a joke, and totally incapable of being impartial when someone is hurt etc. as she proved by moaning last year when Sam was marked down for a poor performance after he sustained an injury. Karen is probably very good at coaching but I would rather have 3 Jasons on the panel than have her back!

Apart from coaching there isn't really a role for Karen on the show, she shouldn't be a Judge because she is too involved with the couples, and that would just give Jason more ammunition to fire and whatever she was supposed to be doing last year didn't work either, maybe she should introduce the clips of them training and talk about that!

Perhaps she could replace Tony Gubba in talking about the routines afterwards - she could add some useful insight though a part of me would miss Gubba's silly names he gives for moves.
I'm not happy that Jason Gardiner is coming back. He insists on being personal rather than just being constructive. If he thinks someone needs to improve on a particular element, then why doesn't he just say that instead of saying things that mostly have absolutely nothing to do with their performance?
People on here have previously taken the mick out of Karen, saying that Jason was right with what he said. What he said was rude, nasty and a cheap dig. As a judge, he was supposed to comment on the celebrities' performance. What he said to Karen was not what he was qualified to do. Also, I can't see someone like Robin Cousins saying something like that - he doesn't resort to being nasty.
I don't think he's popular on the show. A lot of the previous celebs and professional skaters, (past and present), don't seem to like him. For example, Frankie's been vocal about him and also, when Denise Welch queried on Loose Women whether Jason would be on the panel if it was a serious skating competition, (adding that that's how he seems to treat it), her partner Matt Evers nodded and applauded.
I'm seriously wondering whether to watch this next series now.

Delighted that Jason is back.....the place was no the same without him.
Now... any chance they could get rid of Christine... please !!!!

IMO anything would be better than Hayley
Because she doesn't belong there. I don't think she should even be on the show! She's a coach and should stick to that IMO.
Well you've made that pretty clear.
Perhaps she could replace Tony Gubba in talking about the routines afterwards - she could add some useful insight though a part of me would miss Gubba's silly names he gives for moves.

He doesn't seem to regret anything he's said: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s101/dancing-on-ice/news/a441498/dancing-on-ice-jason-gardiner-talks-return-i-wont-back-down.html

Last year I thought it was a fantastic judging panel, the best of any similar show.
Katarina's class and Louie was funny (I'd never liked him before).
With Jayne and Chris doing fewer routines it's going to be hard to find a reason to watch it.
