ipad software update problem

I tried to do a software update on my ipad 3. It started ok but then the screen showed the iTunes icon and the charging cable and now i can't get it to do anything. What do i do?

    Turn off and try again maybe.

    Have you tried to put it into DFU mode?

    Hold down the power and home button and when the Apple logo reappears keep holding the Home button down.

    Connect it to iTunes via USB and it'll recognise it; from there you should be able to restore your iPad 3.

    I have worked out it is in recovery mode and needs to be connected to iTunes, but the problem is the computer that has iTunes can't connect to the internet for some reason and my laptop won't install iTunes for some reason. Is there anyway you can restore an ipad on its own.
