The best combo was Tom Baker, Sarah and Harry all together.

Either the fourth Doctor and Sarah, or the second and Jamie. Though it's unfair to restrict it to pairings, really, as that excludes companions like Victoria who were part of a trio. In fact, if you look at Doctor Who's history as a whole, two companions is more usually the norm.

THe old series did not do emotional like the new series but there were odd moments that made a great partnerships:

DR 3 and Jo for example. YOu could see he was upset when she copped off with a professor!

    Dr 4 and Sarah

Dr 5 and NYssa staying behind with Lepers!

Pertwee and Jo Grant without a doubt.
Second would have to be Ecclestone and Rose

Colin and Bonnie as the Sixth Doctor and Mel.

Great together in their two stories. (And i think their two stories are both excellent).

She's intelligent and adventurous enough to go off and get herself caught up in mysteries and menaced by baddies (the Vervoids are DW's single most terrifying monsters in the whole of 47yrs).

They feel warm and comfortable together, and have a good humour between them, while the Doctor and Peri are never quite relaxed together and she was always determined to get back to the Tardis.

Other than that, I would suggest Ian and Barbera with the first Doctor, but they don't have a story alone together to really judge it by. They are always accompanied by Susan or Vicki.

I have a fondness for the third Doctor and Liz, but again that's complicated by UNIT's involvement.

Ten/Noble..easily my ultimate favourite pairing -ever :D
I liked the early days of Ten/Rose..although the reunion in S4 was, ugh :(
    Ten/Wilfred
    Can Ten/Astrid count?

And I'm gonna predict Eleven/Amy is gonna become my second favourite pairing..based on the what we've seen from the trailer :D

    Hartnell and Ian

    Troughton and Jamie

    Pertwee and Jo

    Baker and Sarah Jane

    Davidson and Peri

    Baker and peri

    Sylvester and Ace

Mgann and Fritz (from the novels)

    Ecclesone and Rose

    Tennant and Donna

    Matt and....?

9 and rose my fave alltogether: just an amazing chemistry between those two: there was genuine warmth there, whereas it felt a BIT forced with her and ten occasionally.

Second and Third would be 2) Troughton and Jamie and 3)Tennant and Donna

Another vote for Three and Liz. One and Barbara were good too. For New Who it's got to be Ten and Donna.

For me without any question it's 7 and Ace overall.
New Who would be 10 and Donna.

I cant put my finger on it either. I love Ace and the Professor too but when i see the chemistry between Jamie and Two i just cant stop smiling. The scene in tomb of the cybermen where the doctor grabs Jamies hand thinking it is Victoria cracks me up every time lol. The dialogue between them was brilliantly written

Technically Jamie was a pretty lousy character; REALLY badly acted for definite, but STILL, there was just great chemistry there. Fantastic pairing.

Ace and the "prof" were great. as he darkened, they seemed to develop a very complex relationship. Id iamgine the later seventh doctor would have been the most irritating and unfun to travel with :D

    three possible choices;
    ten and donna,
    ten and martha,
    or
    nine with rose.

i think i'll probally go with ten and donna, for the fact that i love them!
