Passed away this evening in Dublin :-(

Farwell to : O'Reilly the Builder in Fawlty Towers Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and 'Rashers' Tierney in Strumpet city to name a few of his roles.

:DThe image of him riding a motor bike naked in Waking Ned will last a long time ;-)

Oh no...I just watched him in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this evening. He seemed to be always "old".

I remember him well as the one armed washer-up in Robin's Nest.

    RIP.:(

He was part of my childhood and I always looked forward to seeing pop up in various TV/film roles.

So sorry to hear that he's died.

He had both his arms, didn't he? Remember him from Fawlty Towers as the cowboy builder.

I remember him from Robins Nest, RIP David, condolences to all family and friends. :(

Was only the other day i was talking about him on Robins Nest with my dad, and wondering if he really did only have 1 arm.

    Brilliant actor.

Strumpet City remains the best thing ever produced by RTE, and much of its success was due to David Kelly's amazing 'Rashers Tierney'.

That's right, he was on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yesterday and we said the same thing, we thought he was ancient in Robin's Nest.

    Brilliant fun actor!

    Sad news...

This has reminded me of a radio comedy David was in: anyone else remember 'Spangles and tights' on Radio 4? It was set in a rundown theatrical costumiers in Dublin. Pauline McLynn was in it too. It must have been on in the late 90s.

One of the things I remember from my childhood was my dad going "Oi do! Oi do!" when asked if he likes something.

    RIP. :(
