I usually frown when someone resurrects an old thread like this, but it's interesting to see how the technology has moved on.
Nothing spectacular here by today's technology but here's mine (in 2010 not 2001 )
AMD Phenom II BE @ 3.7GHz x 4 core
2 GHz RAM
1.5 TB of HDDs
1.5 TB of external USB backup HDDs
Win XP Prof. (and I'm sticking with it)
DVD burner x 2
Satellite card DVB S2 x1
Old 17 inch CRT monitors x 2 (don't like LCDs or WSs)
Old Soundblaster Live sound card (stilll beats any mobo card)
Active speaker system
Various other plugin USB gadgets/adaptors
Have tried adding memory but beyond 2GB there was no measurable benefit on anything.
Have done overclocking the processor to 4.3 GHz but it just gets too scarily hot when all four cores are hammering away, so I am back to basics now (3.7 x 4).
Have been considering 26 - 30 inch monitors for a couple of years now but my dual CRTs do everything I want so why change them?
I thought WTF is everyone bragging about 64 bit graphic cards and 20 Gb hard drives? Then I saw the date. Is this the most pointless thread resurrection ever?

No it's not.:)
I think it is interesting to see what this forum members 10 years ago where surfing his site on compared to what we are using today.
I shall be resurecting this thread in 10 years time again.:D

O.K. I concede, I suppose you have a point. I suppose it is amazing how much technology has advanced in the last 10 years. 3D and HD LCD's and Plasma TV's, digital cameras, next gen mobile phones and comp specs we could only dream of.
A bit banal then but better than that 200Mhz pentium am sure.
I've still got a P100 Compaq Satellite 16MB RAM laptop.
Windows 95 would certainly run well on Atom phones!

I do, that's why I posted 'Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.6GHz'.
How did you ever find it?
I was like this  till i saw the dates then i was like this
Thanks for pointing that out! I thought everyone's RAM was a bit low
AMD Athlon 1.6GHz
3GB Ram
250GB HDD
Just a basic laptop but it does the trick.
8K ROM, 1K RAM externally expandable to 64K (56K usable)
Display: 24 lines x 32 character text display
Monochrome only
Sound: None
I/O: Z80 bus, 250 baud cassette interface, UHF television out
Storage: External cassette recorder

Dual Core Athlon 5000
On-Board Graphics
On-Board Sound
Crap 2GB DDR2 Memory (dual channel)
What I want though, is:
Antec 900 gamer's case
i7 Core processor
SSD 120/160GB
DDR3 8GB memory
£100-£150 graphics card
Decent motherboard (£100)
100W PSU
That's about it. Unless I've missed anything out, which I doubt I have.
Edit: Ah yes — the sound card.

100w PSU sounds a bit low should be over 500w
You should be able to get that for £800 - £900
Blast! I missed a nought of the end.

My phone has a 1GHz CPU.
An Atom killer 10% about slower than a newer Core 2 Duo 10 watts CPU.
I still fondly remember my 200Mhz Pentium MMX, 32MB ram, 2GB hard drive Gateway 2000 computer.
A bit banal then but better than that 200Mhz pentium am sure.

i7-860 @ 3.2 GHz
8GB RAM
Corsair SSD 120GB
2 x 2TB Hard disks
Geforce GTX 460
Card reader
No floppy, no bluray.
