It's this type of rubbish that costs councils (and other companies) so much cash. They have to stump up the cash to investigate and fight it and even if they do get an order for costs against them, they're unlikely to be able to pay it so it'll just be written off.

IMO we need to come down much harder on insurance fraud. Prison sentences and life time, legally enforced bans on taking out insurance.

    His defence was just laughable.

Defending, John Wesencraft said that Robinson had made no financial gain from the claim as it was stopped before any pay-out.

He also stated that any actual cash his client would have received was nearer the £10,000 mark.

“He himself never thought of making a claim. It was somebody else who suggested it to him.”

Particularly when fraud doesn't require an actual gain to be made.

Sounds like one where the legal team were having to try on whatever they could, because there was no viable defence.

....unless being terminally stupid is a viable defence.

    OUCH !!!

Pause the video at 24 seconds and see his foot hanging like a wet rag !!

Robinson was given an 18-month community order and must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £600 costs and a £60 surcharge.

Quite a fair sentence for him.

I wonder if he does everything his friends suggest

I suppose, from a certain point of view, it could be argued that a broken drain was responsible because it caused the floodwater which he took it upon himself to leap into.

Love to know how these numpties always seem to find somebody who's prepared to take on their cases though.
Last year our council decided to start applying an extra £300 "factoring charge" on our Council Tax for, "maintenance of common areas" in the little scheme where I live and, upon failing to actually do any maintenance all year, I went to the CAB to ask about challenging the payment and was told "You can't fight it so don't bother trying".

If you've settled a claim in the last three years and were charged 10% commission call now to receive the compensation you deserve.
