Itunes for Windows to Mac

I set up a MAc yesterday for a mate, a nice little Macbook air, but he wants to copy his Itunes music from the PC to the Mac, while I do know a few people who uses MAcs, none of them uses Itunes.
I tried different ways, copying files across tot he mac and hoping the MAc would pick it up, which it did, but it will not allow them to be played unless the computer is online. something like home network, where it can copy the music across the network, never got that to go at all.
why make it so difficult, surly, it should just be the case of clicking on a button, saying download all my music to this computer?
Reminds me why I do not use Itunes.

Or you can use the Migration Assistant application on the Mac that Apple provide purposely to make it easy to copy things over from a Windows system.
