Some pretty big housing stuff being announced tomorrow. The removal of stamp duty for first time buyers (upto £300,000) is a pretty big head line grabber.

Looking forward to seeing the response to that.

This is fantastic news if true. And there's no reason not to you have to give people a chance.

Yes but can it be a game changer and can it stop the SNP worry factor?

How boring of Labour to have actual policies.

I mean, why not suggest that Boris Johnson is planning to declare war on France or something like that?
    Move with the times Labour!

So labour are scrapping the bedroom tax, fixing the NHS, stopping rip-off landlords, now this..

You would be stupid not to vote Labour.

I just wonder how many more policies Labour are going to come up as there seems to be about two a day.

If they get into power they are going to be very busy implementing them all. How are they going to pay for this one - oh the mansion tax I expect.

Yes - Osborne did that and as a result house prices went up by far more than the buyers saved in stamp duty.

Stamp duty isn't the reason people can't afford to buy - it's because prices are too high compared to average earnings.

That magic money tree is sprouting new branches daily! What will be cut to pay for this?

That's fine, apart from the 'not'.

So who exactly will be building these 1m homes, where will they find the money & land? But 'Labour announces tax breaks and bungs to property developers' isn't quite as catchy.

Or these will actually be 1m mansions so everything they've committed to spend using the Mansion Tax proceeds might get funded.

Politics is Ed's whole life and passion. He won't be a chillaxing PM like Cameron!

Stamp duty savings will simply be absorbed into house prices i.e. house prices will rise. This is consequence of pretty much and demand side measure.

And 1 million new homes over the next five years? That's only 200,000 per year, less than we were building a decade ago, and falling well short of requirements. And there's no way he'll be able to get this off the ground within 12 months. The required legislations, planning permission etc will take time. It would be nearer 300,000 per year over 3.5 years.

In short, these proposals are utter bollocks. 1 million by 2020 will not happen, but stamp duty exemptions will boost house values just nicely.

It's a tax cut for the middle classes, whose votes Ed needs but most likely still won't get

They haven't said where the money is coming from, there are only so many people with large estates kicking the bucket to generate inheritance tax, they have as much control over that as they do immigration, and the mansion tax is earmarked for the N H S. More borrowing. Then of course there is his pals north of the boarder to keep happy.

Trouble is people are going to fall for it, until interest rates go up and the repossessions start.

So, any new buyers hold off for this policy.
    Way to stagnate the market.
