So, what are going to be your new years resolutions?

Are they the same as last year?

Do you think you will stick to them this time?

Or are they new ones?

Mine are:

Make a good start to my Business
Join the new gym round the corner (and stick to it)
Learn to drive
Buy a car
And go on some kind of holiday somewhere :)

I tend to try and give up chocolate (not that I eat loads of it, but I have an unhealthy relationship with it. I eat it when I'm down.) But having cyclical low moods every 3 weeks kind of messes that up.

If you don't want to fail, don't try. Not the most motivating statement but true nonetheless.

I will have a newborn, a 2.5 year old toddler, an 8 year old and two cats. My resolution is to preserve what little sanity I may have.

Nothing. It's a pain in the arse firstly having to listen to people telling you what they new years resolutions are and secondly, three weeks later, having to hear all about how they've broken them.

I don't give a toss if you decide on 1st January to give up chocolate and I give even less of a toss if on the 24th of January you decide to have a 1kg slab or dairy milk.

There is NO part of this that interests me, so please, people of the world, stop insisting on telling me like I care about your running 'new years resolution diary'

'I've decided I'm giving up caffeine for new years'

    -Ok

    'Yeah, tea, coffee right out'

    -Right.

'Even coke and I love coke'

    -Got it

'I don't know how I'll cope, I love going in starbucks on a saturday'

    -Ah, right

'But I decided it was something I wanted to do'

    -Ok

    ...three weeks later

'OMG, I had a coffee this morning'

    -Ok

'I couldn't resist, I've been craving it for weeks'

    -Wow, that's something

'I've been good since new years'

    -Good

'But now I've had one there's no point sticking to it'

    -OK

'I might try again for lent. What are you giving up for lent? I'm giving up crisps'

    -Fascinating

So if you had it your way, we'd still be in year 1? ;)

No but I can't see what all the fuss about the date changing is?

It's not a New Year's resolution as such, but I've written myself a list of 366 things that make me smile, one for each day of the year, so I'm doing something with that as a way of trying to do something positive.

I know it sounds silly, but it was fun writing it. :)

Sounds like a sweet idea - what kind of things did you include on your list? :)

    Thank-you. :)

There's quite a big range of things, but my favourite things on it are the little things that you don't tend to think about so much.

    There's things like:

    Helping a friend
Going to the park and sitting on swings (:o)
    Running
    Colouring
    Untangling a knot
Predicting something correctly (snow, cards etc :o)
Seeing somewhere you know on TV
    Whiteboards
    Bouncy balls
    Trampolining
    Hugging someone
That feeling when someone's trying to make you laugh
Hearing a song you love on the radio
Finding something you thought you'd lost
    Trying something you're scared of
Beating a target you set for yourself
Realising you're thinking exactly the same thing as someone else
Waking up and seeing snow (or sun) outside

    etc etc.

Really silly childish things mostly, but just the little things that make me smile. I wrote it a few weeks after my mum died when I was going through a really down time, as my reminder that there's always something to smile at. :)

That sounds really good. I'd love to hear some of them.

I think I'm making a list of 12 things to do in 2012. I achieved about 7 of my list of 11 things for 2011 so that wasn't bad :)

Thank-you. :) There are some on the post above yours now! They're not all that interesting, but then I guess everyone has their own individual things that make them smile!

A list of 12 things to do in 2012 sounds like a good plan, what kinds of things are they?

    I've seen them, thanks :)

I haven't really thought about them much yet. This year, some of the ones I achieved were completing my Masters degree, redecorating my bedroom, going out once a month with a particular group of friends who I tend to neglect and go on holiday. I'm thinking next year's might include something to do with seeing a particular play/show, something to do with my career (as I've finally discovered I actually have an ambition  :D ) and maybe something to do with a hobby or college course :) I like to make them fun but sometimes a bit scary and challenging.
