It'll soon blow over, due to the value of the rest of their continuing business. |

Both governments are at fault. NOT JUST THE ONE in charge right now! it's easy to apportion blame when you're not in government, but let's remember Tony Blair wanted the games in 2005, so if the games are a success then it's all down to Tony Blair and NuLabour, but if they're a cock-up then it's down to the Tories.... ![]() at least the Lib-dems won't be tainted by it.... G4S are not the most reliable of security firms...... prisoners escaping, tagging a false leg of a prisoner, etc, etc... The security I've seen at an Olympic hotel (today) are a joke- if you really wanted to get in, it would be pretty easy. however I'm not a terrorist, and I have no terrorist tendencies... but i'm sure some people do have them.

It's just been all over the news about G4S security problems and lax Border Control employees.
Should we really be broadcasting all this to the world and his wife before the Games. Why can't we deal with it privately and not make it so public. I'm sure the Chinese had problems last time but the rest of the world would never have known. |

If push comes to shove and they're short of bodies, then queues will be huge getting into the park, snaking off down the road. Frankly as a terrorist target, there are thousands of easier places to hit, just as high profile. |

I find it very unsettling that there's a high proportion of Asian applicants. One interviewed on BBC news couldn't speak English very well and was unsure what he was supposed to be doing.
![]() If I was a terrorist organisation I would just get a few security applicants in on the plan and away you go. ![]() typical Britain

My OH - fully trained Close Protection officer and ex-military - applied to G4S for the Olympics because he wanted to be involved and we live within walking distance.
He had an interview with them last December and despite numerous attempts to find out what was going on he finally gave up on them in early May and signed up with another large security firm to work at one of the Olympic Park venues for some pre-Olympic events, he will be working at the venue for the Olympics and Paralympics. When he went last week to pick up his Accreditation he was told there was a problem as he was also on the list of staff for G4S (you're only allowed to be with one firm) - so they'd added him to their staff list and never even told him he'd got the job!! He got himself removed and all is OK but he could have lost both...... I don't think £8.50 is bad money really - a shift will probably be between 10 - 12 hours a day (OHs are 10 hours a day for 14 days straight for the Olympics, although he does get paid a little more) and most of these youngsters won't pay tax so that's about £85 a day, even for 10 days that's £850 in your pocket. What annoys me is that 'real' security personnel usually pay for their own training and their own (renewable) licences but these guys are getting all that for free and will be able to go out after the Games and apply for security work anywhere. So next year, when festival season comes round, there'll be thousands of them after jobs. OH is currently working at Hard Rock Calling - 08:00 - 23:30 (which is more like 01:00 by the time he gets home!) for 3 days running - 15 and a half hour shifts are not unusual for festivals - so they can be quite lucrative if you've got the stamina! |

As I said in an earlier post on this thread G4S are a major donor to the Tory Party and no doubt this will also include jollies for certain members etc. I also mentioned about G4S and ATOS being the major players in getting the new "Medical Assessments" in the Benefits shake-up............. ATOS are sponsoring the London Olympics. Believe me it is not just a coincidence. |

I would love to be in the meeting between the govt officials and the representatives asking the question. why!
Ahh and the excuse or the answer is...... well your home office dept that deals with enhanced CRB checks has closed because of govt cuts " since when was this an excuse!"came the answer ! Offcourse the home office already knew the answer and had already spent the 50million G4S will be fined for not haveing the required security staff. Think they been put out to dry and for there greed (thought they would make a big profit and maybe one day sign a big deal in running the home office prisons..) BY the way the unemployment numbers are just about to increase with another CEO out of a job very soon.. Hey remember ! you need a enhanced CRB check to get a decent job these days and be fully trained as well. oh well early retirement beckons |
