Remote control doesn't work on wednesdays?!
Hi guys,
Im trying to fix a problem with my mum's freeview box. For about 6 months now, every wednesday our remote control doesn't work, until we flip the switch at the back of the box and turn it back on again, where it will only work for around a minute. Every other day we can control every button on the remote just fine, but on wednesdays none of the buttons work! This isnt a problem with the batteries, as we have tried it many times with different ones. I think its about time I found out how to fix this fairly odd problem, any ideas will be appreciated! ![]() P.S Im trying tp not think about buying a new remote, since we have just about been getting by, by turning the freeview box off and on again. |

you can check if a remote control is sending out a signal by putting your mobile phone in camera mode and pointing the remote at the lense, and if you push a button on the remote, you should see the purple light.

Flourescent CFL lights ?
(Low energy ones can interfere, especially when warming up) What time of day does this happen ? Other local interference ? Does the box scan for auto updates or retunes on Wednesdays ? |

If you want to try out another remote without spending a lot, you could try a Poundland One for All. |

Of course, any type of digital camera or camcorder etc would work. |

My sister has a Humax PVR that would not work on Wednesdays until it was re-booted - she got her supplier to reset it from scratch - and then it would not work on Thursdays - another attempt and it is now OK (I had better ask her - perhaps it has gone funny again!).

Does someone come and visit on a Wednesday?
Do they always sit in the same place? Are they sitting on another remote control? I ask because my Mother (86) had a problem with her tv. It wouldn't work from the remote. So she went and bough a NEW tv. When unpacked and set up, that too would not work by it's remote. It turned out, one of the buttons on the old set's remote had a stuck button, which caused it to be continuously transmitting and blocking the signal from the new set's remote control. So in your case, is there an old remote stuck down the side of a chair, and only on a Wednesday, someone comes and sits in that chair pressing on one of the buttons? Well that's a possible solution, as daft as the original problem sounds. |

I had a PVR that use to lock up every Wednesday and it was due to it automatically looking for a non-existent s/w update overnight.
