The good old days (late 70's - early 80's) was best on Radio Hallam (none of this Hallam FM cr@p) Martin Kelner did the 10pm slot and it was hilarious. I used to have the radio on under the covers and often didn't get to sleep till after midnight (on a school night!!)

The original Hallam line-up (in 1974) was superb: if I remember correctly it was:

    Johnny Moran - Breakfast (6-9, I think)
    Roger Moffat & Brenda Ellison - 9-12
    Keith Skues - 12-2
    Ray Stewart - 2-4
    Colin Slade - 4-6
    Bill Crozier - 6-7

Can't remember who was on in the evenings...but that was some line-up. Keith Skues was PD, with Bill McDonald as MD. Ian Rufus was News Editor, Stuart Linnell was Sports Editor, and Bev Chubb was Head of Music.

Not quite- in 74 Jean Doyle was on 2-4(later Liz Davies)

Ray Stuart was on some evening shows, but there were also specialist shows-(Rock, Sport, Country etc)

Then Bill C back 10 til Midnight

But you're right in that was great line up!

Ah yes, dear Jean Doyle - I am rebuked for not remembering her, but are you sure about her place in the line-up? The reason I ask is because - and I know this for a fact - the original drive presenter was going to be (wait for it!) - Peter Donaldson. Yes - he of the plummy voice delivery on the news on Radio 4! Whereas Messrs Moran, Moffat and Skues had all been sacked, at various times, by the BBC, Peter Donaldson left of his own accord to be part of this exciting new venture in Sheffield - but he got cold feet at the last minute, so the line-up was re-shuffled with Ray Stewart brought in from BBC Radio Sheffield.

You're quite right about Peter Donaldson, but the re shuffle led to Bill Crozier doing the late show, which would have been Colin S, who moved to Drive-"Roundabout " as it was called. That was originally on a split basis with Brenda as Colin also did weekend breakfast. Complicated!

Ray was brought in to do some evenings, weekends and swing. He moved to the afternoons a bit later , but can't can't remember exactly when- it was over 30 years ago!

Because he's accepted breakfast at Red Dragon, alongside Sally Bailey.

An interesting choice. I think, to be brutally honest, there were better options for Hallam FM. Ed is a good presenter, but his downfall (in my opinion) has always been his voice. A peculiar timbre which has never really passed.

Still, he should be proud. He's done extremely well. I only hope that his format style can meet the expectations of the Hallam FM audience; who have been treated to some of the best personality commercial radio in the country for the last 5-10 years.

All Hallam FM need to do is sack Big John
Just as many people who listen to him, don't like him.
Hallam would be better with out him.

So if people listen but don't like him, why are they listening to him?

Also you got rid of Big John. Now the hard part. Got any names who you believe is a suitable replacement since you say that Hallam is better without him?

He's not saying that people who don't like him listen to him. He;s saying the same amount of people don't like him as the amount that listen.

I have no evidence to back his claims up or any interest in the subject just felt I needed to put you right! :D
