I know it was only the first one but I think they've ruined the final round.

Lots more pointless answers available to get though.

Someone obviously decided that they didn't want huge jackpots any more.

I agree. I find the new format a bit messy. It will mean that there are even more pointless answers which are not given out. I think it would be better to let people chose one general category and then select one of the three options.

Possibly not. Yesterday's jackpot question had only 3 pointless answers. Maybe they'll be able to use questions now that only have 1 or 2 pointless answers.

I'm looking at categories like Glasgow or 1970s Britain and I'm thinking some of these jackpot rounds may now feature questions from 3 very different categories. Glasgow, for instance, might feature a question of Celtic footballers and perhaps the novels of a Glaswegian author. And stations on the Glasgow underground seeing as how the London Underground has been a popular choice for a topic in the past.

Probably. Too many Brits seem to think tennis is only played for two weeks a year

No, they know it's played at other times of the year - but only if there's British people involved (I doubt most people would have even known about the US Open Final or the tennis finals at the Olympics had Andy Murray not made any of them).

First time I've ever seen a head to head question that had two possible correct answers (and also the same answer for two questions). Wonder what would have happened if they had said "Raining in My Heart" instead of "Thunder".

I just came on to this thread to post the same thing! :D

The researchers must've never heard of Raining in My Heart, but you would think they could've had a quick look at his discography on Wikipedia to check that there was no ambiguity in the question.

Meant to say that if they had had the year of the song shown on the board, as they sometimes do, there woudn't have been any ambiguity.

Oh and I'm not keen on the new final round either as there is too much for the finalists to think about. Although I suppose there is nothing to stop the finalists concentrating on one category only so they don't have to think across all three categories. Will see how I get used to it.

Ambiguity would have been eliminated if they'd gone with Thunder In My Heart Again by Meck featuring Leo Sayer.

Some people have complained in this thread about some of the jackpot questions being too specialist. So the new format will cover a broader range of knowledge. Chances are most couples will concentrate on just the one option but there's more chance now that at least one of the options can cover something they know a bit about.

That was famous for returning Leo Sayer to the top of the charts after a gap of lots of years. And it's not knowledge, it's Wikipedia.:p

Yes, I agree that makes sense. I will probably get used to it, I just don't take changes to my favourite programme easily!

Ooh, Richard Osman just replied to me on Twitter!

I tweeted him about the two answer question on tonight's show, and he replied v quickly, saying 'Yep, we'd have accepted either'.

Thinking about it, some of the 100 people would've said Raining in My Heart so they probably knew there were two possible answers and were prepared with points for either.

I am ridiculously happy to be replied to by the lovely Richard! :D

With regards to the Tennis it wasn't specified (as it usually is) that only the open era counted.

OK, been out, so just watched this, I think they've made a number of good improvements, think they definitely showed the pics longer than normal.

Oh, I don't like the end thing, I'd go for Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Yvonne cawley.

So did you have to only go for one, confused.

Ah my TV guide tells me the Pointless Celebs on today is the one with Chelsee Healey, so I'll be giving that a miss :D

You could provide answers either for one of the categories or from all of them.

Wasn't Mickey Mouse Club/ Mouseketeers two different answers?

Well, Mickey Mouse Club was the name of the tv show and the Mouseketeers was the group name of the main cast of kids on the show so I guess they accepted both answers.

A repeat from last year. From what I remember of it
It is either Kate Garraway or Chelsee Healey that got to the final, and didn't win the jackpot.

That's OK by me. I'm watching the Football instead (and possibly BGT though will more likely record that one)

It's not the first time it's happened. There was a previous head-to-head which was the names of Grand National winning horses, where they missed out one word of the name. The option given was RED (blank). I think they were obviusly expecting the answer 'RUM' being chosen but it would have been interesting if a pair had said 'ALLIGATOR' which would also have been correct.

Red Marauder also. Personally i think that both cases were oversights. Of course the answer would have to be accepted and would be pointless but because it has never been stated that there are multiple possibilities i think most would doubt themselves (was Red Marauder 2nd? was that song actually a b-side or album track?).

I wonder what would have happened if a team had given Grand Slam winners from before the Open era (perhaps the specification was given to the contestants but not shown on tv, unlikely though).
