Online reports this morning that Welsh actress Margaret John has died at the age of 83.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_John

She appeared in some classics over the years but will probably be remembered for her appearances in Little Britain and Gavin and Stacey.

Locally she appeared in regional 'comedy' High Hopes on the BBC.

She will be missed from our screens.

Her favourite line that i remember was....

"What that boy needs is a nice big c**k up his arse" from a Dafydd sketch in Little Britain.

    Aww that's a shame.
I remember her from Dr Who as the Grandmother who lost her face in the Idiots Lantern.

That's really sad, I only just saw her last week in an episode of Dear John, I didn't recognise her till I looked her up to see if it was the same person as Doris.

I can't find any news about this anywhere. It's also unusual for someone to die and for their Wikipedia page to not be updated by about 1000 people in 20 minutes. :D

Is there a link to this story?

I'm genuinely sad about this. I love her turn as Mrs Hepplewhite in High Hopes, one of my favourite comedies over the last decade. I still haven't watched G&S yet, despite having been given the box set, but may well crack open that cellophane tonight, watch an episode, and raise a glass to her. She always came across as a lovely lady. May she rest in peace.

Aw, what a shame, she was sublime as Doris.

I'll never forget the sign and the classic line " Where's the salad, where's the salad, THERE'S the salad, now leave me alone".

    RIP Margaret John.

Her last acting job was probably as Nan, a servant to House Stark in the fantasy series A Game Of Thrones which starts on Sky Atlantic in April.

He voice appears at about 25 seconds into this clip

Very sad to hear the news about Mrs. John :(

I wrote her a letter last year to see if she could sign a DVD for me and she sent me back a lovely letter.

    R.I.P Margaret

How very sad. It's a shame that if they do make any more Gavin and Stacey, Doris won't be there.

I also remember her from the Mighty Boosh.

I loved High Hopes, she was also brilliant in G+S, I would go as far as saying even better than some of the "main characters". Very sad news :(.

Rest in peace Margaret. There was quite a poignant bit in Gavin and Stacey where she was given a blanket because she was cold. It was the way she spoke her lines. Can't really explain it but you really felt she was actually saying something else. Lovely lady and it really came across in her role in G&S.
