I think Gaiman is a sure bet for one of the authors but who else do people think they will be?
A new series of Doctor Who stories is set to be published monthly to celebrate the 50th anniversary year of the hit television programme.
The 11 tales, known as "eshorts", will each be written by a well-known children's author.
Each story will feature one of the various regenerations of the Doctor, starting with William Hartnell, who played the character from 1963-1966.
A paperback of the stories will be published by Puffin in November.
The first children's author will be revealed on the BBC Worldwide Doctor Who Facebook page on Monday 7 January, followed by the first story on Wednesday 23 January.
A promotional video of each author will also be available each month on the BBC Worldwide YouTube channel starting on Friday 11 January

Not something I want to happen!!!!
Would be pretty cool if she does.
Which Doctor do we think she'd be writing for if she is?
A tale of young Susan Potterman who's wisked away from her mundane existance on the planet of Privitdrive (where she has lived since her parents were mysteriously killed many years ago) by her mad Grandfather in his spaceship that looks like a motorbike on the outside.
He tells her "You're a Time Lord Susan!" and enrolls her in the Prydon Academy of Timecraft and Wibbleyness.
Or maybe not.
And J.K Rowling? Oh she would be too big a get to ever possibly be true... (*ohpleasebetrue*).
Gaiman can write the lot as far as I'm concerned. But if he does just one, I'd like it to be for the 4th Doctor.
Maybe cause children's authors can capture that whimsy about the Doctor in a way 'serious' adult authors can't. I can't imagine Sebastian Faulks doing it
And there are many good authors of adult fantasy but they don't have the 'name', do they? Almost everybody will have heard of people like Rowling etc (assuming she is doing it) but not necessarily writers of fantasy fiction which is still somewhat a niche market.
Oh god
I saw that too. Probably just slack photo editor rather than any confirmation. Saying that JK is the only living childrens author that I know. Roald Dahl would have been amazing. Jacqueline Wilson maybe?
What better way to introduce them to youngsters then?
And then there are those with a name who you really wouldn't want writing one - George R R Martin for example.
Gaiman seems a safe bet And Rowling would be brilliant too. I think this is a brilliant idea

Shame it's not a Who/Fowl crossover.
Excellent news. I read the four Artemis Fowl books that were out when I was younger (ah, that takes me back...) and I remember thinking The Supernaturalist was pretty excellent at the time as well.
