I haven't seen any for ages.

This is a serious question as I remember seeing quite a few years ago.

No, there are a pair of identical boy twins in my daughter's year at school and a pair of identical girl twins in my sons year.

Definitely not extinct in my family.

At the moment, there are seven sets of twins across five branches. The oldest twins are in their 70s and the youngest twins are around ten months old. Only two sets are identical, though.

My grandfather was an identical twin (his brother's still alive). Their own grandfather was a fraternal twin (his sister died during their infancy). My childhood friend was a fraternal twin. Until I was around eight, I honestly believed twins existed in every family. There's a history of twins in my spouse's family as well, but only one set at the moment: his brothers. Fraternal.

Probably because they make an effort to look and dress different. They don't spend much time together either as they have lives of their own.

I know two sets of identical twins around my age (late 20s, both are younger than me actually).

Do you socialise less now? Generally, we are in contact with more people on a daily basis in school.

Also, perhaps twins stay closer together when they are younger, but once they are older and move out, get their own jobs, partners etc... they aren't walking around together all the time, so you'd never know they had a twin if you saw them.

There was a pair in the other class at my primary school, wearing same clothes and everything. They also used to sit next to each other at lunch and walk in line with each other still while wearing matching clothes. So yes they are still around as they were born in 1996. Not sure if those girls are still alive though, but I have no reason to believe otherwise.

My mother and aunty are identical twins. The only difference is their hair, if it wasn't for that even I would have trouble telling them apart!

You probably do seem them, just not at the same time. Being adults, they will likely have their own separate lives from each other rather than living and working together.

So because you haven't seen any for a while they must be extinct? Seriously??? Do you get out much?

Yes, in fact, i think it was considered that a set of identical twin skeletons replace 'Dippy' the Diplodocus at the NHM before settling on the whale.

I'm an identical twin and consider myself a walking talking dinosaur... and proud! :)

Besides on television I don't think I have ever seen identical twins, that doesn't mean they are going extinct though.

I don't think I've ever seen a pair of what I would say are identical twins in real life. Even the ones that I've seen on TV haven't exactly left me thinking...WOW!

I'm a twin, but me and my sister haven't dressed alike since we were old enough to choose our own clothes, and although we're very close, we don't spend a lot of time together. There are some adult twins who are inseparable though, I remember seeing a TV show about them, it was a bit bizarre.

Twins will exist for as long as humans reproduce by means of having babies. So unless that changes, they're not likely to become extinct.

We have at least one set of twins every year in nursery. We currently have 3 sets, 2 of which are identical.
