Software wise, Adobe and Google are already on the case. And again, it remains to be seen just how bad websites look anyway - I think when browsers update (Safari already will be, and Chrome at least will be very soon), then text will be fine. Images on the iPad don't look anywhere near bad enough to spoil things, so I'll reserve judgement until I see a new MBP. |

But the problem here is that you have a very small screen that is high-res. If you use 100% zoom on a web page, it might be unreadable, because the font is too small. You have to zoom. Texts will look great because of so many pixels and antialiasing. I do not know it is possible to specify the size of pictures as relative to the page size. In that case the browser could do this, the actual dimensions of the picture would determine the subjective quality of a displayed picture. Personally I think going above full HD is a waste and a gimmick on Apple's part. But often it does not matter if something makes sense, what matters if it is a USP or not
And retina is a buzzword du jour for them at the moment..

Very small screen + hi res. Doesn't seem to be a problem on the iPad.

A less than glowing comparison of Apple Maps vs Google Maps.
http://gizmodo.com/5918176/google-ma...urce=pulsenews are there any reviewers more swayed by Apple's version? MG Siegler or Charles Arthur perhaps.... |

In spite of the new iPad's resolution, the majority of Windows RT tablets seem to also be sticking to 1366x768. |

I just can't help thinking this anti-Google thing they've got going is looking rather dogmatic and cutting off their nose to spite their face. |

Wouldn't surprise me
![]() Google has said it wants to make its Maps available on all platforms, but I can easily see Apple rejecting a standalone Google Maps app due to "duplicating existing features" or some other nonsense... |

At the moment if you put the map in 3D mode all you flat map with distance perspective, which you can view from any angle. Looks a bit like early versions of Google Earth. As yet no 3D topography or buildings for the UK. It may well come with time, but I won't bank on it.

Currently if you navigate to maps.google.com from your browser in iOS 6, if offers to install a shortcut on your home screen to give you one tap access to Google Maps. Most features seem to work fine but sadly no street view.

Well and behold; they had one sitting there alongside the rest of the new range! I should of taken some pictures, but it's seriously a sexy machine. My only disappointment was not being able to see the desktop in normal mode. By the looks of things, they'd turned on scaled mode to enlarge the desktop scale. However, the clarity was just as impressive as the new iPad. And websites? Any pages that aren't scalable and use a lot of images to structure the site look awful. You can spot the compressed images straight away. I'm still considering selling off my iMac and MacBook (13") to get one of these as I maybe moving out later this year. I definitely won't have any room for the iMac and still want a power-house. |

They have to scale up, given the size of the screen, having it in a native resolution would mean you could not read a thing, because pixels are two small. So instead you effectively get the same resolution with more pixels to use, i.e, sharper picture. It will be good for displaying pictures though. Not sure about videos as the maximum readily available is 1920x1080.

Scaling up pictures is no better than viewing them at native resolution. Good when the web starts embedding higher res pictures though

no new update for iMac!
Nope! I was 150% sure that they were going to mention something about it and so was everyone that I spoke to about it.
I was really hoping for a new upgrade or workstation for video editing and graphics. Sorry the retina display on the MacBook Pro does not impress me at all. |
