I used to really like Joanne Malin on Central News.
By all accounts now and having seen some of the subjects she is very 'fluffy' and talks about her partner and dog all the time.
But I think she is a good television news presenter and would be a very good fit for Midlands Today with Nick Owen.
And if I'm right, they haven't had a regular female presenter five days a week in the 6.30pm slot since Suzanne Virdee left.

So, what next for late's on the Orion Stations. I one for hope they keep the talk show, but good talk show presenters are hard to come by these days.
The Sanctuary hasnt been running for 8 years, she was on breakfast back then with Elliot Webb, The Sanctuary is an Orion thing so started in around 2009.

She will be missed in that slot, it started a bit slowly but in fact has become a very good show. Not sure how she will fit with WM lunchtimes, its a very different station, but I wish her well.

Indeed, they've been using Sarah Falkland, Mary Rhodes or Jackie Kabler since Suzanne Virdee 'left' the BBC.

I think The Sanctuary goes further back than 2009.

I'm pretty sure it started as a Sunday night stopgap when Jerermy Kyle left the semi-networked 'Jezzas Confessions' show he did (mostly) from Century North West to go to Virgin Radio.
That was somewhere around 2005-6ish.

I remember Caroline's late night show before she moved to breakfast being called "The Sanctuary". Graham Torrington was networked out of BRMB from early 2006 so it must have been before that.

I'm not sure when the show name was first used but remember Caroline taking over Friday and Saturday nights when Steve Penk was hosting a networked late show (it was this which replaced 'Jezza's Confessions' in 2002). When Steve's show ended Caroline moved to the other nights.

I think that's when they started using the name. The Sanctuary was originally a music based show then it became speech based, then Torrington was networked and Martin moved to Breakfast with Elliot Webb for a few years.

So Caroline Martin moves to BBC WM's lunchtime show, hopefully allowing Joanne Malin to move to Midlands Today - sounds like a good thing all round.

Like Newsbuff I used to really like watching Malin presenting Central News in the days when that was a really strong regional news programme and when I heard Suzanne Virdee was leaving Midlands Today, the possibility of Malin replacing her was my immediate thought. Would like to see it happen.

Now Caroline has joined WM, I wonder how long it will be before her husband Adam Bridge gets a full-time show on the station? Over the past 3-6 months he's been a regular voice on WM covering the weekday early breakfast and Saturday lunchtime show, and seems to have made a good impression. I wonder if he'd be able to fit in something permanent as he also commentates on football matches for Gold in the Midlands and the Perform Group in London.

I pray to god that Jo Malin will be off Radio WM. Cannot stress how bloody awful this woman is. Stick to autocue on the TV.

He's just started a new show: BBC WM Early Kick Off, which has replaced Terrace Talk with Jimmy Franks in the Saturday 12noon-2pm slot during the football season (when there isn't an early kick-off involving one of WM's five clubs, naturally).

He's not a stranger to WM's football coverage of course, he was their secondary live game presenter to Paul Franks for most Saturday lunchtime/teatime, Sunday and midweek games before he left the weeknight WM Sport show to host the early breakfast show a couple of years ago and WM's commentators started presenting/co-commentating on these matches.

Is Daz still doing the early breakfast show or has Mollie Green or Adam Bridge replaced him? I mentioned Bridge upthread, he covered the Saturday lunchtime show that Hale is taking over during the summer and he's recently been brought into their live sports coverage as well. He commentated on the Warwickshire County Championship cricket match for the website which was also carried by Radio 5 Live Sports Extra on Friday and is hosting their speedway coverage this evening; however he's also said on Twitter that he'll be commentating for talkSPORT's international Premier League coverage (a sort of radio world feed that will be taken by stations outside of Europe) so I guess he'll be remaining a freelancer for the foreseeable future.

Yes Dan was at the Reading-Stoke game for TalkSport Live (their new online service) on Saturday.

As for him collaborating with Caroline, not really the best thing for their personal relationship, plus, this is local radio. They're not going to pay for two presenters

Your forgetting this is BBC Local Radio, some stations even pay for 2 presenters for the Introducing Show.

I'm sure those that do pay less for the combo than some stations pay for some single-headers.

And these are stations which deliver 60 per cent speech.. so rather more output is coming from their gobs per pound of show fee (probably even in some specialist music shows) than an ILR with 12 per cent speech.

Married couple on BBC WM!

Wouldn't be the first.

The infamous Mr & Mrs Wadsworth, now at BBC Leicester.

Actually, Dan Wheeler would have been covering that game from talkSPORT's new "International Broadcasting Centre" in London as opposed to the Madejski Stadium as they are doing their international Premier League commentaries off-tube. Adam Bridge is also due to be commentating for talkSPORT Live this season as he has mentioned on Twitter.

Connor, when you say you've heard Dan Wheeler has "left" BBC WM, I would take that to mean he's left a staff position at the BBC and has gone freelance, as opposed to leaving the BBC full stop. There was an article in the Hereford Times about another commentator joining the talkSPORT Live team, BBC Hereford & Worcester's Keith Hall, which said that he'd no longer be covering Hereford United's "Saturday games", indicating that he may still be heard on that station for midweek games. Perhaps the same could be true of Wheeler.

As for Adam teaming up to Caroline to present a show on WM - personally I can't see it happening as they do very different things as broadcasters, what with Adam being a sports commentator and Caroline presumably due to do a show in the same kind of vein of The Sanctuary. Also, due to Adam's other commitments (as well as his work in London for the Perform Group and talkSPORT Live, he might not be completely done on Gold's The Goalzone too) it's still not a guarantee that he'll be working for WM on a weekly basis.

I think Jules Bellerby and Julia Booth have co-presented on Radio York as well.

Yes, her father Ivan was a massive Caroline fan and named her after the station.

I bet he never imagined she'd go on to present there.

She was married to fellow Caroline jock Dave Asher for a time.

They co-presented breakfast as Dasher & Dawn but I forget which station it was?

She was certainly a very competent music presenter in her time with Radio Caroline. I haven't heard her talk shows so cannot comment on them in all fairness.
