Of course not. I'm not a muslim.

    Weird question more like...roll eyes.

Easter is a Christian festival but I agree that a less pagan name could and should have been chosen

So why do you think it's a disgrace if non Christians don't teach their children about Christian festivals then?

    A: So What
B: I find this very hard to believe, considering it is now compulsory to endure RE classes up to the age of 16.
C: Does this include the fact that both Christmas and Easter were originally simply coined by Christianity as important dates. Or would you prefer the teaching to only extend far enough to support one religion's ridiculous claims?

    I rest my case.

You said you thought it was a disgrace that children did not know about religious festivals and that you blamed the parents.

Is it just Christian parents you blame then?

Christmas and Easter appear to have once more "evolved" and what we have now (Easter bunny and Santa) are the products of commercialism and capitalism , and most people now follow them rather than the Christian tradition.

I guess the pagans felt the same way as the Christians of today do, They have a right to feel pissed off, but they did allow it to happen.

Maybe the kids were taught it by the parents and schools but the kids forgot about it because they didn't consider it to be important.

So, you remember everything you were taught at school ... and if not, it isn't because you've simply forgotten, or you weren't paying attention, it's the fault of the teaching staff!

Do you blame other people for everything?

I don't think religion should be taught at school however if it had to be then all religions should be covered equally without any bias for or against any.

agreed, a healthy slab of Taoism and Buddhism wouldn't do anywhere near the harm

to be fair I think kids could do without the meaning of them. I mean hey its useful to build up their general knowledge. But for the most part, easter and christmas are now simply traditions rather than religious festivals.

I call it progress. The quicker we secularise ourselves and remove the Church from having any influence on our lives the better.

    In principle I agree.

But you better hope we remove Islam and other major faiths from everything in the UK at the same rate or we're going to be left with one faith usurping another to the distress of many.

I think we should spend a lot less time teaching what the religions claim they are about, and a lot more teaching their actions throughout history. Nothing left out, the full bloody saga.

Let them make their own mind up as to if these are groups they really want to follow.

I don't, I think it's a good thing, Kid's don't need all that religious crap in their lives, The less kids know about it all the better.

I'm fat more concerned that kids can't spell these days. Wat, 2nyt, l8r seem to be among the norm these days.

Surely teaching children how to spell and use the English language correctly is more important?

English kids are taught more more about other religious festivals than their own...
No wonder you have generation of lost kids. I think they are belittled from a young age, made to feel useless and inferior.

But what is their own what if the family is atheists then learning about the CofE is just the same is learning about Catholic- Islamic or Hindu or Sikh religions

As most people now are either atheist or don't practice what does it matter what they learn best if they just cut all religious lessons out if it means that much to the family send them to a religious school.

On the subject of Santa (which is an anagram for Satan)

In this world, where a lot of people are paranoid about child molesters

I find the notion of a man dressed up in a costume.. and therefore disguising his real identity, and having children bouncing around on his lap, whilst he whispers into their ears... it's rather creepy

I wonder if all these people are cleared as safe to work with children beforehand

Meanwhile, a Dad who takes any photo's of his own kids in the bath... has his collar felt by the local constabulary

No not when the meaning behind it is just a made up story and it has got absolutely nothing to do with our heritage I don't consider it part of mine

If you want to go on about heritage then no religious story has anything to do with it as none happened in England.

Most people are not atheists. More people consider themselves Christians, some serious, some not. This country was built on Christian values and is hugely what made this country what it is. Kids SHOULD know there own history, but English history is made to seem dirty... and everything else wonderful and diverse.

Not at all. Religion is a cult to follow when you can't handle real life.

So again, do you prefer we lie to our children?

If not religious its meaning is not important to them, growing up Xmas, easter was is not about religion and will all ways not be about religion, why do religious people want to force their views on others.

Atheism is on the rise will more people now starting to become atheists and more willing to admit to it and not a moment to soon

This country was built on a lot of other values to what have been wiped out for the better .

The kids should know their own history does that include the counties we invaded and millions we murdered and enslaved in the name of Christianity or do you just mean the good bits.

As someone else said if they have to learn it tell them everything the good and the bad

Actually, that number is increasing massively. Soon in the UK anyway, religion will be believed by a serious minority. Todays generation of kids want nothing to do with it.
