Two local TV test transmissions but ultimately no local TV. .

    Oh well :(

I did have high hopes for NVTV, but not Bonanza Bonanza and Pop..

These are the two national channels broadcasting on the spare capacity to help share the costs of running the multiplex. The local channels themselves are due to launch over the course of the year.

How many times does this need to be repeated? >:( Can we stick it in bold at the top of the forum or something?

Once again, Bonanza*2 is a temporary channel.

I know, I'm not talking about Bonanza*2, I'm asking what happened to ABC Shopping as referenced in this thread: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1933222

Oh, I see, I don't know then. Either it replaces Bonanza or timeshares with one of the two national channels.

It must be quite a challenge setting up the Winter Hill local multiplexes - 3 petals all on the same frequency.

Yes, and not for the faint hearted !

From Crystal Palace, my Technika box connected to the rooftop aerial is now refusing to pick up the local mux, Bonanza channel, local test card and London Live tests all breaking up, pixellating, completely unwatchable. Yet my portable set in the kitchen complete with indoor aerial is pulling them in loud and clear!

I'm in West London. I have an indoor aerial which needs to register 80% signal strength and 100% quality to get a decent picture on all channels and stations. London Live rarely registers more than 72% strength, the signal quality constantly flickers up and down the scale but the reception is perfect. Go figure.

London Live is on a very robust QPSK mux.

Getting a 55% strength 90% quality signal on UHF39, (I assume from Winter Hill) at the moment. No video/audio. Normal service signal strength is 93% on the same receiver.

Ignore this - I've just managed to tune it and it's S4C on one of its rare visits through the side lobe of my aerial.

You're lucky. I don't get anything here. Hopefully, Notts TV should be receivable (?) onces it's up and running?

Both the Nottingham and Waltham transmitters are on air carrying Bonanza Bonanza and Pop. If you can't get them, after a retune, then your not going to get Notts TV on Freeview (although it looks like they are in discussion with Virgin Media and Sky).

I live in East Hertfordshire, EN10 postcode and pick up my signal from Crystal Palace.

I have 3 Freeview boxes, but can only see London Live, Pop and Bonanzax2 on 2 of the boxes. The third box recognises the relevant LCNs but when I go to 8, 64 or 75, they're blank. I've tried doing a manual re-tune on Ch29 but this hasn't had the desired effect; the signal strength is shown as "strong" but I still have a blank screen.

It probably doesn't like QPSK. I'd suggest to look it up in the DTG receiver mode compatibility test report, but most of the failures are censored, which makes it entirely useless. All you can do is check it isn't in there as compatible and assume that means it doesn't work.

L_MAN has just fired up - data already present, two channels visible. There's a fair chance L_LIV and L_PTN may be up too, worth a look if you may be on one of those petals...

edit: 14:50 and L_MAN is off air now.

Looks like all 3 new local petals from Winter Hill can be considered to be live now - this afternoon Ed Hall tweeted:
Nearly 2.4 million new homes added to the #localtv multiplex this afternoon. Great work up the scary big mast at Winter Hill.

Winter Hill serving North Wales as always :-)
Anyone seen any sign of L_LIV from Storeton relayed on C30?
Or L_MAN relayed from Saddleworth on C41 - which was mentioned in a 2011 ofcom doc[1] but I'm not sure has happened.

Storeton should be part of phase 1: (official time estimate end of June 2014)

    http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/tv/mux/MuxL/Technical_Plan.pdf

    But not from Saddleworth .

Note the coverage maps are from this Ofcom paper:
Indicative locations for local television multiplexes
Initial technical assessment /Research Document 9 August 2011

and are based on the more robust DVB-T, QPSK, rate 2/3, guard interval 1/32 signal mode.

    Lars :)

( the rate=3/4 is ~1dB less robust for an aerial with LOS, but almost 3dB worse for indirect signals /Table A1 EN300744 v161 )

The North East one only works sometimes for me, I think they knocking Pop and Bonanza off as test transmitters are finished. They should come back on as soon as channel 8 is ready to launch since the other two channels worked before.

I know that they can only broadcast to the north and east of Waltham because of co channel interference with The Wrekin but the Waltham signals on UHF 26 don't seem to be reaching Nottingham.

In the area where I live, south east of Nottingham and just 13 miles north west of Waltham whilst we get reception with a set top aerial from Waltham we're getting no signal at all from the local mux. I can't see how most people in Greater Nottingham who use Waltham will get the local mux from that transmitter.

In contrast the Nottingham transmitter at Kimberley a good 11 miles away according to Wolfbane is giving strong reception of the local mux, sadly though 99% of the aerials in this area are on Waltham.

It does make me wonder why they're bothering to use Waltham at all when the signal transmitted in the opposite direction to Nottingham, they'd be better off saving it for a South Lincolnshire local tv channel, if that should ever be needed....
