Indeed -- and it must be said that this is a problem easily overcome. I find that I watch HD channels more than any other, and HD STBs are dirt-cheap now -- free with Sky/Virgin if you're a pay subscriber, and as little as £15 for other TVs for a cheap HD Freeview box.
I have found that the cheap Logik 22" LCD I have nailed to the wall in the kitchen, wired to an ADB Freeview HD box hidden from view, actually gives a very respectable picture. Using its own built-in Freeview setup, however, yields a rather washed out and artifact-ridden mess of a picture. The upscaled SD output from the ADB is also very decent.
This is then in turn connected to a small stereo system so the sound quality is more than adequate as well.
