And Labour didn't oppose it? Buit I though they did?
Only a small number opposed it by voting against. Others abstained, effectively granting their support for the emergency legalisation.
I find it barmy that people want the coalition out and then vote Labour in 2015 when they do things like this and show no sign of being any different to the shower we have in now. A sad day. I feel sorry for those Labour MPs who voted against, must be difficult to remain in a party whose majority support the ideologies of IDS, Cameron and Co.

Quite agree! I thought I had mis read the message or something. Sad that the opposition only had a small number voting against.

You didn't expect the labour party to vote against their own policies did you. However much left wing advocacy groups spout about evil tories, the work programme and mandatory work experience are very much labour party inventions which had the same implied threat of sanctions for non compliance . The present government simply repackaged and rebranded existing programmes.
800,000 on schemes such as Work Programme and 400,000 on other programmes?.
That's pretty shocking, and given the admissions from the DWP that most of those don't appear in claimant counts, and those doing unpaid work under these schemes count in the new jobs created figures, that basically means there has actually been a rise in unemployment and no rise in paid jobs created at all as the changes in figures are down to these schemes.
Why can governments (both Labour and Coalition) not just be honest?.
More than half a million sanctions by the DWP, after being recommended for sanction by the private providers?.
Absolutely shocking.
Cheers for the video link Diaz.
No media outlet seems to have mentioned the John McDonnell speech, if the Commons had been full when he delivered that speech it would have been very interesting.
The government are not at all interested in helping people back into employment, it is all about sanctioning people to save money, the money saved by sanctions if so tiny it isn't worth the admin costs.
Sanctions are increasing every month. The government are just being spiteful and nasty. Changing the law after they broke it to make their illegal actions legal is dangerous and should never have been allowed to happen, it is the sort of thing our government would condemn if a foreign country did it.
We can make a difference, online picketing, street picketing, occupations and many others forms of protest do work and they do get results as can be seen by Superdrug pulling out of the scheme.
Why can governments (both Labour and Coalition) not just be honest?.
I was once told, that If you put all the MP's in a sack, and hit that sack with a big stick for the intention of hitting the liar. You get the bastard every time.:D

If every MP had his principles then the UK would be a much better place. He is genuinely on the side of the unemployed.
If I lived in his constituency then he definitely would have my vote.
If you are interested this is his twitter: https://twitter.com/johnmcdonnellMP (You can view it without a twitter account yourself)
I am glad he mentioned www.boycottworkfare.org

Things need to change immediately.
