I thought Emmerdale would get a sub 5m figure so it held up better than I expected. I don't think the BBC will be quick to take EE off Christmas Day when it was nearly their most watched show.

EE did well to come second and within a whisker of MBB. I wonder if it was ahead of Corrie this year.
Eastenders could quite easily top in Timeshift( through Doctor Who time shifts the most) through and may even beat Last Years official. Low for Mrs Brown. Eastenders should hold steady tonight. Not sure how Miranda can have that rating but a 10m peak.
Ouch for Corrie but it got what it deserved.

Don't care how good the Acting is the stories are just a complete mess.
dying to see how Paul O grady Faired given it started earlier than DrWho
something clearly knocked it. But DrWho is number 1 on Iplayer this morning

Whilst a DW fan I must defend it, that was an excellent episode last night, classic Who, and Calpadi now settled into the part I felt he was The Doctor a very good show, I thought it was going to be a bit silly but it was actually quite Scary .

Where has that Miranda peak come from? Are we sure it wasn't the peak for the 9-9.05pm period when CTM ran into EE's slot?

Seems odd, and suggests the rest of Miranda rated even worse than the average suggests!

#DowntonAbbey averaged 5.84m/24.5%, the eighth most watched yesterday. On BBC1 at 10.40, #MichaelMcIntyre averaged 4.70m/27.0%.

All BBC One numbers on previous page. :)
Are these numbers correct? I mean these are the worst Christmas Night ratings EVER.

How on earth could Miranda have peaked at 10m?

Call the Midwife peaked with 10.35m (40.9%).... at 21:00, this a huge mix of Midwife and EastEnders viewers.

    Between 21:05 and 22:00, EastEnders averaged 7.34m (29.4%).

Miranda herself peaked with 7.20m (29.6%) at 19:45.

Pretty normal weekday viewing levels I suspect. Maybe folk are so attuned to catch up viewing that watching live/same day has died out. Could be massive timeshifts but that won't matter because tomorrow's papers will be a bloodbath for the Beeb. The Mail and Express editors will be creaming themselves with delight.

Is it remotely possible that BARB has had some IT glitch?

Overdramatics from lots of posters here this morning. TV viewership has declined massively over the year, there's alot more options for people to do in the evenings now, especially Christmas Day. That said this years Xmas TV was bordering on the intense lazy.

Christmas day TV audiences likely to be among the lowest on record. BBC1’s peak (7pm-10.30pm) audience was 7m (28.9%) v ITV’s 6m (24.6%).

We all could see that DA is now well past its peak the last series had loads of viewers dropping off, and the quick repeat today would have been noticed in the guides. Over mailing a show and poor scripts are killing it off, it shouldn't be on Christmas Day anymore.

    That makes sense.

So tapechecked Midwife had 7.06m (28.8%). With EE on 7.34m (29.4%) as you said.

With regards the bit in bold, I've been wondering that since about April! :p Everything since about then has seemed lower than expected.

I doubt it though. Clearly viewers have been voting with their remotes.

Queenie had the biggest share at 37% and Strictly had 35.1%.

Again that 10m peak is very surprising considering everything rated low.

Actually there may not be massive timeshifts for BBC1 shows because the quick repeats of most stuff will snaffle all but quick catch up viewing due to BARB flawed methodology.

Anyone still think Sherlock will air on Christmas Day 2015? Not now, that idea just died. Could see both sides airing back to back films all night. :-(

Quick glance at Channel 4's numbers, nothing to shout about.

What did Eastenders get tape shifted last year as it didn't run the seclude last year.

Any figures for the BBC3 repeat. Could timeshifting figures be broken next week?

Pretty underwhelming there again. A big disappointment all round.

Wonder how badly ITV's afternoon/teatime did.

    Thanks DMN.

I have to say the ratings are poor but from a discussion point of view they're fascinating. EVERYTHING was down.

I don't think Eastenders timeshifts count into the omnibus( except for normal Friday's) SCD is not repeated and Miranda not to Monday and I am not sure when Doctor Who is so only Mrs Brown Boys will be affected by a truly Quick Timeshift.
puss In Boots did well. What did Chity Chity Bang Bang.
I wonder how accurate these ratings are anyway as Imagine Chrismas day causes more problem's to the usual calculation measurements.

I think the problem with EastEnders is that the Carter's don't seem to have the universal appeal that the Mitchells, Slaters or even Brannings had. So when they take centre stage the ratings always seem to flat line.

I wonder what this means for the 30th anniversary. Unless there is a miracle, they are going get no where near what they did for the 25th.

I think that's a given. 9 million for the LIVE perhaps.

The scheduling needs rejigging next year as the format on BBC is stale now

That's the headline in the Mail and Express then:

QUEEN TOPS TV RATINGS AS VIEWERS VOTE WITH REMOTES
    - lowest Christmas Day ratings in history as viewers punish stale schedules

Not for BBC shows getting a repeat in the next couple of days
