To be clear, I assume you're talking about laser-engraving, right?
I mean, it would be daft to allow somebody to do regular impact-engraving on a delicate electronic device wouldn't it?
I remember a few years ago Nokia brought out some fancy phone and Aston Martin brought out their own version of it which cost over £1,000 and had a bunch of engraving on it.
A guy I worked with was a big Aston fan and, while in Thailand, he got somebody to engrave his phone so it looked just like the Aston version.
It did look very nice but it never worked again afterwards.
I think the title is supposed to say "look at me I have an iPad."
Or maybe the thread is a way for all those who can't afford one to get all upset about apple again. There's a lot to like in Apple products, along with some major inconveniences. A bit like Windows then. The iPad is not expensive for a tablet, Samsung's Galaxy costs about the same, and is indeed much the same, even the courts say so:p Why people have to get so partisan about their chosen brand of electronic goods is beyond me. It's just like a religious debate.

I'm not anti Apple. I have several Apple products.

Apple have always been expensive. Sure there are other tablets/phones that cost the same, however, the difference is the other products offer a hell of a lot more for the price.

No they dont.
It was the case until apple was caught once again lying through its teeth. The case along with every other stupid patent apple were trying to defend has been dropped apart from 1 which is to do with Google. This is another reason apple are such a vile company.
As for the OP's question. Why bother? Doesn't make it look better and no one will admire it. Plus, it makes it less likely you will manage to shift it when you buy another one.
As somebody else said, you might wanna think twice about getting anything too odd engraved on it in case you ever want to sell it.
If you're only allowed a small area to be engraved then I'd give it a miss.
If you can get the entire back of the case engraved then perhaps some kind of tasteful design based on the apple logo done all over the back?

Incontinence?
