Nothing to do with his nationality. I was thinking more of the murdering career criminal aspect of his life.

I'd never heard of him before tonight.

He sounds like a nasty piece of work but from what I'm reading it seems for some reason the Australian public perceived him as a lovable rogue.

His first book is a really really good read. He was an exceptionally talented writer. He of course insisted he only ever targeted other criminals, and the scene in the film showing him beating up women was completely false.

As pointed out he was spectacularly unsuccessful as a criminal, if one of aims of crime is to stay out of jail.

I can't help thinking the world is less interesting with him dead.

So in that basis, RIP Chopper.

Chopper wasn't a particularly talented writer - however he was a great story teller.

I have to give the guy some respect for the fact that he refused to go on the transplant list as he didn't believe he deserved to be on it.

Many years ago one of my old bosses had worked as a Social Worker at Pentridge Jail in Melbourne and he said Chopper would always come in and tell these fantastic tales - this was prior to his books.

Ah, the kind of "loveable rogue" who liked to use a blowtorch on people.

I did enjoy the film, though.
