It seems that UTV have extended their 'Total Access' evening show on to Juice in Liverpool. The Big Top 40 is also going to be taken by the station.
The powers that be in UTV seem to want to make Juice into more of a celeb/entertainment station, a change from the dance/urban style they have been going for in recent times.

R.I.P. Juice FM>:(:(
The Brighton version (which is owned by Brighton & Hove Radio Ltd) of the station still retains its localness.
Yet they would probably benefit from taking some sort of networking from somewhere - anywhere in fact - as much of the locally produced output is average at best. Some you'd struggle to call average! As you alluded to, it's worth pointing out that beyond sharing a name, there is no direct link between Juice Liverpool and Juice Brighton.
Aren't you being just a touch melodramatic here? We're talking an evening show and possibly BT40 (which the majority of CHR/AC commercial stations take anyway).
Now it loses 18 hours a week
1900-2200 weekdays
1600-1900 Sunday
But what was on on Sunday up to last week? And when does the new network show start in the evening?
What will happen to the presumably 2 presenters who will be leaving?
Thanks
He did the evening show and the Sunday countdown.. Have to say he was good and connected with the listener, pity a local is being replaced .
I've said on the City thread, Radio is slowly dying on its backside, in my opinion there is too much choice, but not enough variety ( that's a good strapline)
Well, judging by the fact that the evening show will take out a huge 4 hour chunk of the specialist schedule on Friday night, I won't be surprised if another one went. Usually their specialist stuff starts at 6pm and ends at 2am - unless they plan to push back the shows??
Is there another reason why Juice are taking on the networked evening show? Are UTV planning to expand the station on DAB outside Liverpool on the UTV muxes?
There's certainly space on the UTV multiplexes and the Switch ones they co-own in Scotland. In the UTV mux areas as they own stations they could cross-promote and cross-sell similar to what Bauer Place will be doing/Absolute does.
donna alos and travis perkins will be next to go to juice and all the weekend networking
- Year on year Rajar trends show Juice continuing to gain reach and share on Merseyside, slowly building up a presence against Radio City. It's a growing brand.
- It can't be saving them all that much, somewhere between 20-30k/pa, tops. Surely that spend isn't too hard to recoup in a market like Liverpool? Annual sponsorship of the show alone should cover it. (Unless my numbers are wildly out.....?)
- Seems a bit of a format departure. How will it fit the general character of the station? How closely does Juice engage with its locality? Ie will this feel and sound like a non local programme to listeners? Will that affect the station's credibility? Alongside hit40, is the intent to go head to head with City? If so they'll lose.
- Didn't I read on radio today recently that UTV/Juice had just hired an ex capital programmer? (Can't remember his name....) Is this his decision? Does it show intent of a new strategy? Or, could this be desperate cost cutting.... sales way off target???
- How close to format is total access? Seems a little less credible than the rest of the output
My only other thought is that they want to throw extra resources into breakfast, that could be a battle ground following Leanne's departure to City (a shrewd move from bauer)
Closing thought: Going head to head against City was always a bad idea historically. Even with all their networking today, I think it still is. City is still a powerful brand on Merseyside.
@Danroachlfc: it's ok mate, not the 1st person to lose his job & I won't be the last.
Unless this is being generic
That sounds generic to me.
Would be suicide surely if they started watering this output down?
Car crash radio, was like I'd changed to a completely different station.
Huge mistake whoever came up with that idea, not something I'd choose to listen to can see their momentum against city fall right off now. In demand sounds miles better and that's a load of shite too.
It's Travis Mitchell - he does overnights on the network.
Can't believe they are thinning down the specialist DJs, the last decent thing on normal broadcast radio.
