I'm happy as long as I can get (ie drive) there fairly quickly/easily and can park ok (which should be fine as I know there's loads of parking spaces outside) and as long as I can watch the movie without too much noise around about, thats all... ive been to that cinema with my folks twice this year so far (Casino Royale in January and Mr Beans Holiday in April )) and both times were good experiences, nothing bad happened so I can't imagine its that bad unless alots changed since April... anyway I better give it a shot, if it is ok it'll save me alot on the petrol costs for going somewhere else apart from anything else...

The thing is you say you want a small and they say a large is only 20p extra and you go "ok then" cos you think you're saving money or something.

Take a bottle of Malvern/Buxton water or a 500ml bottle of coca-cola family carbonated drink. Then if they question it ask them to prove that you didn't buy it from the screen snacks there :)

OR you could get a boy to take you there. Pay for your cinema ticket and LARGE drink with popcorn AND nachos. :)

    What an odd thread.

Why not just take £20 with you to cover your beverage purchase?

Nothing wrong with planning dear. One can only imagine the questions before a night of passion in the OP household ;)

lol I know, I have this perfectionistic tendency to, when I want to do things, I'll sit and write notes detailing/calculating how much each thing costs, to figure out how much to have on me and to know how much the total cost of going to wherever or whatever is, so that I feel prepared before going and can decide whether its worth it and so on, it is possibly a little OCD though I know! I was just curious to see if I could calculate as close as possible what the cost is, to go to the cinema for future reference, so I can decide whether its worth it to go see certain movies myself. I knew the large drinks cost alot so I thought if I asked and they say its like £4 or something even for a small one then I'd be alot more tempted to try and bring in my own drink rather than pay through the nose! and £20 for drinks? its only me going and I wouldn't need cash for the ticket since ill order it online, I can't imagine ever drinking £20 worth of drinks lol or I'd have to keep leaving the screen for the toilet and I'd miss half of the movie :D lol... I don't really like handing over large notes for small transactions though, I feel a bit guilty like a £20 note for a £2.50 drink... im so caring id feel guilty knowing the cashier will have to sort out alot of change

Is it compulsory to have a drink then, if there's a problem with the cost? I mean, I go for about 5 hours without a drink of coffee or whatever, so why is it people feel the need to have a drink when in the cinema? Do you have a drink with you the entire time you are watching tv at home for instance? Maybe it's me that's weird.

If I did have to have a drink, what's wrong with a small carton of juice in your jacket pocket, the sort that comes with a straw, nobody is going to know, it's not like it's gonna make a noise to open or drink it, is it?

Yeah but I don't wanna drink so much that I end up dying for a pee at the vital stage in the movie lol just enough so that my throat doesn't get too dry or whatever during the movie, thats enough for me :) even 20p is worth saving I guess, look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves and all that malarky...

Yeah thats true. Its not such a big deal really, I guess lol ok maybe its a bit sad me asking about this but I just wanted to have a rough idea, for reference *shrug* yeah im a bit sad at my age getting excited about deciding I want to try going to the cinema on my own lol its the way I am about things, when I get excited about doing stuff and I'll start to wonder hmmm well if I want to do or get this or that, maybe I should ask around how much it'll cost and stuff, like I like to be prepared so I know what things will cost...

I probably could go without a drink, I figure if I go for the 1:45 screening then I'll just have an early lunch about 12:30 and leave just before 1 and I'd be back home around 4pm-ish, so I probably could go without it, its just a tradition I guess, I've always had a soft drink when watching movies. My throat does tend to get quite dry when im in cinemas though, they can be pretty stuffy and I've had a bit of a bad cough, so ive been trying to drink alot, at home too... I guess I could bring some strepsils instead but for £2.50 im not too bothered really... blah blah blah lol

Lol, no worries, your post has made me smile, I think it's quite cute! :D

Hope you enjoy the film. I've not been to the cinema since 1989 so what do I know - same reason really, nobody to go with, and it's too far to travel. Can't be bothered. :)

IzzyS it seems that you may (or may not) have received a definitive answer ... but would it not have been easier to call them and ask them directly? You say you looked on the website, but didn't say anything about phoning.

Also - what film are you planning to see? Is it likely to be busy? If not, then save yourself the booking fee and just buy when you get there.

Thats quite a while... well im going by myself since I don't really know many people in my area anymore but im fine with that... im lucky though the Falkirk cinema is pretty close by, I just checked and multimap says its 8.59 miles away. When I was younger I'd be lucky to go to the cinema maybe twice a year with my parents and we'd have an hour or so's drive it must have been 30 odd miles away or further... now ive got my own car and there's a semi-decent cinema so close by I'm suddenly feeling tempted to use it alot more :) its also good that there's lots of parking and it doesn't cost to park, so it could def. cost more, its not too bad...

I like the cinema experience though, as long as people don't talk right through the movie or anything. At home my TV is fairly small and the main one is only 26" so there's a big difference watching movies on a cinema screen...

part of the reason why it feels like a kind of a big deal for me as well is the driving, ok its under 10 miles away but really I haven't done very much out of town driving on my own, only really to work and back (a quick 10 minute or so drive on an easy straight stretch of road) and within the town I live in and one other one much closer by, (I've driven further away but with someone else with me like my parents or whoever) its a more complicated drive to get to the cinema with a stretch of motorway and some fairly busy town driving with one very large roundabout (don't think anyone much enjoys large roundabouts), it should be ok though since its the town I passed the test in and I know where im going. I'm going to drive to the town tomorrow to take my family shopping and back to be sure I'm ok with it. It took me a while to pass my driving test, so my confidence as a driver isn't always great but im sure I can prove to myself that I can do this and once I have, I'll feel pretty good :) some extra independence and extra confidence that I can drive further afield and all of that... plus ill have seen a funny movie, so, all in all, im looking forward to Sunday :D anyway ill shut up now :o

I think you need to get out more.
    Why dont you just
    A) Take your own drink
    B) Take some change for the drink, I think 3 pound should be enough and you wont feel "guilty" for needing some change off the cashier
    C) Just take 20 pound and be done with it, its not a big deal to get some change....

    WOW!

Do they still have those free postcards advertising movies and stuff? I remember when we used to go through to Edinburgh to the cinema in Wester Hailes I think it was, they used to have a display unit thing with loads of those, I forget to check for those, I'd always take a bundle home... I think last time I was at the cinema there, they had a new free magazine as well, ill have to remember to have a look for those on Sunday I guess lol

Why don't you take a bottle with you and fill it with water while you are there. That way you aren't paying them for a drink but taking something else from them. You can go home really happy then.

What I don't understand is that the poster is planning to see Rush Hour 3. Now Jackie Chan is always worth watching but this film has had the worst reviews ever. I think the highest rating it's had is one star! Not wanting to be rude, but when there are loads of great films around (Bourne, Knocked Up etc) why go and see a film that is 100% guaranteed to be terrible?

I've seen both of the previous movies and really liked them, I know what to expect... I did a search on here for the movie and have found a few people who have posted about the movie in the movies forum saying that they thought it was really funny. Its not a movie that the critics will acclaim its just good for a laugh and thats what I want :) I def. don't want to see Knocked Up lol and I've seen both of the previous Bourne movies and decided its not really my kind of thing, I wasn't so keen on the second movie in that series...

Yeah, I liked the previous Rush Hours but this one has been unanimously slagged off by the critics and I do accept that they know what they're talking about. So I find it curious that so many people ignore the reviews. Knocked Up, on the other hand, got an absolute rave review in the Scotsman yesterday (I was in Edinburgh!) so even though I'm not a fan of that kind of film I'm going to see it.

If other people who have seen the movie left really bad reviews for it then I probably would change my mind and go see something else but I can't imagine its that bad if others who have seen it said its good then thats fine by me :) I don't really pay too much attention to what critics say about movies really, if I think I'll enjoy it I'll give it a try *shrug* like I read so many bad reviews about the Mr. Bean movie but my family went to see it in April and we really enjoyed it, had a great time! though im surprised RH3 only got 1 star... to be totally honest I hadn't looked for any reviews on it until yesterday, I just presumed it'd be good since I enjoyed the other movies... I saw a movie show on ITV a while back where they talked about it and had interviews with the cast and some clips, it looked good and they said if you like the previous Rush Hour movies then you'll love this so I thought perfect, that'll be great :) I think it was Movies Now or something...

The user rating for the movie on IMDB is 6.6 out of 10 and has a positive user comment posted (see:- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0293564/), I can't really imagine that its so bad that its not worth seeing at all... like somebody else said, anything Jackie Chan is in is always worth watching and ive seen a few of the recent US films he's done now, the Rush Hour ones and the Shanghai Noon & Shanghai Knights movies but I haven't seen any actually on the big screen ie in the cinema, so im quite keen to see it, to watch the martial arts choreography on the big screen, if for no other reason, it should be pretty cool :) and because its the kind of movie my parents wouldn't bother to go to the cinema to see but rather wait for the DVD and watch it then. Now I can get to the cinema myself alot more easily, I want to go see the stuff I wouldn't have been able to do so (or not so easily anyway) in the past, so I def. wanna see this :) I guess even if it is really bad, at least I will have had the experience of driving to the cinema and back and I'll at least know that I can go back again and will feel happy knowing that I can go back to see something else, later in the year possibly (or next year) :) so in a way I feel I can't really lose...
