I got Iron Man and Casino Royale when they first came out and I was blown away. The thing to remember about Blu-Ray is that it doesn't always make older films look incredible in terms of brightness but it gives the viewer the closest thing to the quality of the original film reels, warts and all. That's why so many film buffs love it, the extra detail is worth the money.

Having said that, newer films with big CGI moments always look excellent so you can't really go wrong.

    From my collection I would recommend;

    Iron Man
    The Dark Knight
    Up (or any Pixar)
    Band of Brothers
    Star Trek
    Sin City
    2001
    Dexter

I don't tend to replace dvd's unless I find a bargain or a really good special edition. I did with Sin City and Rocky Horror and they are both infinitely better that their dvd's.

Bought Repo Men first. Looked really good, clear upgrade from DVD.

    Others I'd recommend
    The Dark Knight
    Inception
    Iron Man 2

Got my player just over a year ago, and it came with Terminator Salvation, Slumdog Millionaire, and Angels and Demons.

First blu I actually bought was Life Of Brian, and the quality difference was really noticeable as I knew the DVD version so well.

When I got my PS3 there were only a few movies.

I think that the first one I bought was Monster House.

By far the best blu-ray I have watched so far is Avatar, it is simply stunning.
Closely followed by the POTC movies and of course, all of the Pixar movies.

my first blu ray was 'sin city'. when i bought my player i had a choice of 1 of 3 free movies so i went with that one. first 1 i actually bought was the US version of 'Watchmen' cos it was the full directors cut and you couldn't get it in the UK for another 6 months.

I got my first Blu-ray included in the offer when I bought my PS3. It was a choice out of a few films all of which weren't very good - so I picked Hostage, as I hadn't seen the film at that point - it really doesn't show off the Blu-ray quality. But then again I am not one to stick a film on just to see the crystal clear image - that is a bonus for me.

Pixar's 'Up'. Not a great film, but not bad.

I was given my first Blu Ray discs as presents. The first one I bought myself, I think it was V for Vendetta.

Which BluRay did YOU buy first and why? I bought J.J. Abramas "Star Trek" reimagining. I love scifi films - and my two favorite franchises is Star Trek & Star Wars.

Was it to replace a DVD? No. I haven't even seen the film until I bought the Blu-ray.

Were you impressed? Yes, very, very impressed. The picture quality was spectacular as was the film itself. I personally think that it's the best "Star Trek" film ever made.

The first bluray I bought was X-men origins: Wolverine. It wasn't the first blu ray I'd watched as I'd been renting them for a while before I bought that one. I was impressed with it though.

    I'd Recommend:

    Star Trek: 2009
    Wolverine
    Terminator salvation
    Apocolypto

Goodfellas. Wanted to start my collection with a classic.

Was it to replace a DVD?
    Yes.

    Were you impressed?
Yes, obviously I wasn't expecting a spectacular transfer for a film twenty years old, but still very nice.

Wolverine Blu ray / DVD Combo
was cheap and and didnt have a blu ray player at the time,
so took another 4 - 5 months till I could see it in HD but well worth the wait.

first after getting a player was Leon. that was an upgrade from DVD and was money well spent

    My Name Is Bruce.

Only because the DVD version wasn't in stock at the time. I always go for DVD over Blu Ray. And I will continue to do so for a long time to come. I own three movies on Blu Ray and it wont change much as time goes by either.

I got Spider-man 3 with my PS3 but the first Blu-ray I bought was Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. They're the only two I have though.

I always mean to buy more but never get around to it.

Pixar's UP. I decided to go Blu around the same time as UP's Blu-Ray release. So I decided UP would be my first Blu-ray.

Was it to replace a DVD ?
Nope. Don't own a DVD collection.

    Were you impressed ?
Yep! Was blown away by the picture quality!
