FFS Rihanna should have been #1 not this dreary mess. Yes it's for a good cause but chart positions don't matter.

Can't stand her same ol s**t just different words

Rihanna?! There is absolutely no reason why she should be the no.1 christmas single. Anyway good on them for getting the no 1 spot.

Nonsense, there are so many reasons. It's not some crappy cover and it happens to be an amazing song.

Charity singles don't need to be #1 as it's the money raised which matters.

Here's an updated list i've made of Paul McCartney's number ones which he is involved in or credited to as either a writer or performer in the US and UK including no. 1's during his tenure in the bands The Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist. :)

    The Beatles (1960–1970)

    1. Love Me Do (released 1962, US # 1 for one week, 1964)
    2. From Me To You (Uk # 1 for seven weeks, 1963)
    3. She Loves You (US and UK # 1 )
    4. I Want To Hold Your Hand (US and UK # 1, 1963-1964 )
    5. Can't Buy Me Love (US and UK # 1, 1964 )
    6. A World Without Love (US and UK # 1, 1964, written for Peter and Gordon,)
    7. Eight Days A Week (US # 1 for two weeks, 1965)
    8. Yesterday (US # 1 for four weeks, 1965)
    9. Day Tripper (UK # 1 for five weeks, 1965-66)
    10. We Can Work It Out (US and UK # 1, 1965-66)
    11. Paperback Writer (US and UK # 1, 1966 )
    12. Yellow Submarine (UK # 1 for four weeks, 1966)
    13. Eleanor Rigby (UK # 1 for four weeks, 1966, lead vocal by Ringo Starr)
    14. Penny Lane (UK # 1 for four weeks, 1966)
    15. Hello Goodbye (UK # 1 for seven weeks, 1967-6
    16. Lady Madonna (UK # 1 for two weeks, 1968)
    17. Hey Jude (US and UK # 1, 1968)
    18. Get Back (US and UK # 1, 1968)
    19. Let It Be (US # 1 for two weeks, 1970)
    20. The Long And Winding Road (US # 1 for two weeks, 1970)

All in all, Paul wrote 14 of the Beatles 27 # 1 hits in the US and UK, he also co-wrote 5 of them equally with John Lennon which makes 19 Beatles no.1's from 1962-1970 alone, plus World Without Love which was the only no.1 Paul wrote for another artist. Onto the early solo and Wings years...

    Paul McCartney (1970-1971)

    21. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey (US # 1 for one week, 1971)

    Paul McCartney and Wings (1971–1981)

    22. My Love (US # 1 for two weeks, 1973)
    23. Band On The Run (US # 1 for one week, 1974)
    24. Listen to What the Man Said (US # 1 for one week, 1975)
    25. Silly Love Songs (US and UK # 1, 1976)
    26. Mull of Kintyre (UK # 1 for nine weeks!, 1977-7
    27. With a Little Luck (US # 1 for two weeks, 1978)

and now as a solo artist since then...

    Paul McCartney (1980-present)

    28. Coming Up (US # 1 for three weeks, 1980)
    29. Ebony and Ivory (US and UK # 1, 1982, with Stevie Wonder)
    30. Say Say Say (US # 1 for six weeks, 1983-84, with Michael Jackson)
    31. Pipes Of Peace (UK # 1 for two weeks, 1983-84)

    (Charity singles)

    32. Do They Know It's Christmas? (UK # 1 for five weeks, 1984, as a member under the name, Band Aid)
    33. Ferry Cross the Mersey (UK # 1 for three weeks, 1989, with The Christians, Holly Johnson, Gerry Marsden and Stock Aitken Waterman)
    34. Do They Know It's Christmas? (UK # 1, 2004, as a member under the name, Band Aid 20)
    35. He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother (UK # 1 for one week so far, 2012, as a member under the name, The Justice Collective)

and the UK Christmas no. 1's:

You have your opinion I have mine, rather my money go to a worthy cause with a worthy song then to a true crock of a record company (the song was good for an X Factor release)

Profits from Impossible went to help children with terminal illnesses in hospices across the UK. :) They didn't have a "group" charity single this year, they used the winners single instead.

And how much did Syco make from it? Cowell and his cronies only do something if there is something in it for THEM. Shame really because impossible is an excellent song and James Arthur is a very good find, just a Shame its a Cowell product.

It's Yellow Submarine that has the Ringo lead vocal as he isn't even on Eleanor Rigby anywhere - it's Paul and an orchestra.

I guess that's one good thing about it. YNWA makes me cringe.
