Looked like a blatant - albeit very misjudged - attempt to cash in on the popularity of Call The Midwife and One Born Every Minute.
Good old ITV....they'll arrive to the party early one day.
Considering many were predicting the demise of H/O on here not so long ago, fair to say it's in a healthy state.
2,273,000 is a hefty audience and I'd say judging by the buzz that with 4OD and the omnibus that H/O must be gaining a good 3 million plus audience at the moment.
The show will do well to maintain the momentum now the Bradys are gone - the ratings will tumble when the focus is back on the McQueens/Savages. Clare's return won't really fill the void that Brendan has left, quality actors like Emmett Scanlan very rarely opt for soaps.

It wasnt a PSB documentary, it was made as a pilot episode to get ratings with a view of making a full series. 1.6million is absolutely terrible but no less than it deserved due to the fact it was clearly made as a rip off of other channels programs.
Up against such dire competition, Prisoners wives shouldve done better. All other terrestrial channels at 9pm added up to less than 5million and yet PW couldnt do better than a 4.1millino rating. Not very good. Imagine if it actually faced some good competition, would be below 4mill.

Regardless of whether it was a PSB documentary or not (seems pretty clear it wasn't), there's no way ITV should be falling to 1.6m in any 9pm slot for new programming.

Yes I completely agree. Brendan is going to leave a huge hole. Its one Clare will not fill.
People also forget that while Bryan Kirkwood did wonders at Hollyoaks, not many fans enjoyed his then final 3rd year. He had ran out of ideas. Bringing Clare back again signals for me that this new Hollyoaks ratings wave won't last long.

It had nothing to do with Call The Midwife. It wasnt a drama. There was no soppy music. It wasnt set in the 1960's.

Itv saw the popularity of shows like call the midwife and obem about people giving birth, whether they were documentaries or drama. Both big hits for their respective channels. So it's clear that two years after BBC1 and Ch4 did it, Itv wanted to get in on the act with their own birthing show, trying to make it sound a little bit different from the others by basing it on homebirths instead of hospital births. But the viewers saw through this and rejected this rip off. Itv were hoping to make a full series of this, obviously wont be happening anymore after those poor ratings.

I think it will move around a lot over the next 9 weeks based on football and other things. It was filmed in the street outside The london Studios by a single camera so I'm guessing it cost next to nothing.

The Martin Lewis Money Show is not a major commission, regardless of the number of episodes. It's a half hour dirt cheap filler show being used to plug a gap in the schedule at next to no cost.
It is moving to the Friday 8pm slot from episode 3 onwards. They've just brought the first 2 episodes across to Thursdays to fill an awkward gap between football weeks. It couldn't be further from a major commission if it tried. :rolleyes:

So now youre admitting Home delivery was made for the ratings because women giving birth is "popular". Im not saying BBC was first to notice this, far from it. But theres no need for you to make excuses like something was made as a PSB show just cos it got low ratings, this obviously wasnt a PSB show and was made for the ratings. Martin Lewis Show on the other hand is probably PSB and I think it rated alright.
