A serious fire has broken out in Dagenham just two hours before firefighters walk out in a row over pensions.
"You see the smoke and the flames are leaping up in the air about 20, 30 foot high,"Eyewitness Ray told LBC 97.3's Iain Dale.

It broke out at a scrap yard on Perry Road just after half past three - London Fire Brigade claims 1,500 tonnes of metal is alight.

I wonder how they managed to light the metal?

I hope everyone at the fire and nearby are safe. We have had a few at scrappys near us. Wouldn't rule out insurance scams.

I heard that on the radio, but thats one person from the Union somehow I dont think those fighting the fire will listen to that unless of course they have full cover to replace them like for like and it was clear they would not leave anyway whilst there was any risk to life.

The bloke who said it is an idiot.

LFB said that, because of the major blaze, all striking FBU staff who would normally be on duty were immediately being recalled to their stations.

This was under the agreed "Recall to Duty Procedure" and was voluntary, it said in a statement.

Sky reporter "who's putting it out?"
Fireman leaving the site "Don't know", "senior offices, whoever wants to put it out can"

And you think you have my support for your strike? which the unions in their wisdom have put on as near to bonfire night as you can to try and use emotional blackmail to get your way.
Erm, i think the answer is not printable here.

I've always fully supported the fire crews, tonight I am disgusted with them (or their decision, anyway).

Why be disgusted with them? Surely this shows how vital they are.
