i would probably go with Fawlty Towers

I was going to say Fawlty Towers but it was let down by a dud episode ( The Anniversary)

you might find this hard to believe but John cleese actually rates that as one of the best episodes.

What, even the ones with Daphne's god-awful family??

I liked her family! I assumed the accents were a joke...

Just shows that people aren't necessarily the best judges of their own work.

    Father Ted
    Absolutely Fabulous
    Blackadder
    Red Dwarf
    Only Fools & Horses

Those are my top 5 (in no particular order) and I don't think they'll ever really be beaten.

British:Ab Fab (until the end of series 3. Forget it, after that)
    Father Ted
    Fawlty Towers

I actually thought the last few episodes of Series 4 and almost all of Series 5 were just as good as Series 1-3, especially Cold Turkey (probably my favourite of them all)

Don't know about "all time" but Coupling has got to be somewhere in the top 5 for me!

Not a sitcom per se, although the situation was mostly a ( fake) building site in Germany, Auf Wiedersehen Pet first series must rate as the best comedy drama of all time.

    UK/

    Dinnerladies
    Dolly:"so we wouldn't me naked"
    Philippa:"oh,no"
Dolly:"only, some of our appliances spit fat"
    :D:D:D

    The Good Life

    Yes Minister/Prime Minister

    US/

    Cheers

    The Golden Girls

MASH was brilliant (though they threw away any pretence at chronology),but I don't consider it a mere sitcom.

The final season of Roseanne was god awful shite. A shame, but they let sentimentality take over.

I'm going to go for Father Ted as this is consistently funny no matter how many times you watch it. Fawlty Towers was great, but I think it's probably aged more than some other comedies have.

Wow this has got me thinking!

Not in any particular order (apologies if any of these aren't sitcoms):

    Blackadder (series 2-4)
    Red Dwarf (earlier series')
    Ab Fab (earlier series')
    Miranda
    Phoenix Nights
    Goodnight Sweetheart
    Birds of a Feather
    The IT Crowd
    Flight of the Conchords
    One Foot in the Grave
    The Good Life
    My Family

Does anyone remember You Rang M'Lord? I used to love this when I was younger :o:o
