I think he does for sure, someone I know has it and it fits perfectly.

Aspergers is on the cusp of the autistic spectrem and can make it difficult for you to make friends, maybe have strange hobbies etc

I would agree. Maybe they're saving that storyline for later?

I seem to recall in a recent interview somewhere David said that when he first joined Corrie he 'played Roy as autistic' because .... and he gave the reason, but I can't remember what he said, cos that was just a quote from the interview that they enlarged on the paper - the way they do with particular quotes - that I only half digested - the autistic bit!

Yes, this was an excerpt from a recent DS article from David ... :)

"He is definitely on the autistic spectrum. I chose that he doesn't ever lie, that he doesn't drink, that he always carries a bag. I wanted him to be autistic. He is very literal and he can't read between the lines."

I didnt mean physical functionality. you often get different levels of socially functioning autistic people. low functioning to high functioning, though things are never quite so simple with the condition as to be defined by a term, i suppose.

He definitely has it, yes. Everything he does screams Aspergers. He gets fixated on things, as Hayley said the other day. He can only see black and white, not the colours in between. He is very moral and kind. Also remember that episode in the supermarket where he had a breakdown?

I really would love Corrie to run a storyline about Aspergers, as I too have been diagnosed with the condition (I'm a bit obsessed with things and have difficulties socialising).

Asperger's is high functioning, by definition.

Hmm, I never really thought that, though it's always annoyed me when somebody's a little bit odd or different and others feel the need to brand them with whatever syndromes and mental disorders. Can't people just be weird sometimes? :p

Why does everyone have to be labelled and categorised these days?

Why does everyone have to be labelled and categorised these days?

    EXACTLY!!
As some children get rapidly labelled as ADHD these days!
In 'my' day, this wasn't an available condition!

Thanks for that info :) I never realised that. I just thought Roy was an eccentric as he had lived on his own and absorbed into his love of steam trains etc.

I have Aspergers myself. I have always thought Roy has it too, although his portrayal is very stereotypical. Roy is very similar to Reg Hollis who used to be in The Bill who often mentioned having Aspergers Syndrome.

I had no idea Reg had it!

Monk is an excellent US detective who's autistic, although he had to leave the force. ;)
