Do! I've just downloaded them to my Kindle to re-read them. And it gives a believable explanation for the why Guinevere falls in love with Lancelot

I watched the first couple of series, but I don't have sky and I was disappointed enough by series 2 to not go to the bother of watching the third series online.

I agree that they fare better than in the original versions (what little I have read of those), but they are still way behind the men in terms of development and complexity. I don't think it's enough of an excuse to say "but we've portrayed them better than they were written centuries ago".

I may look into the Mists of Avalon series then, it sounds good. :)

Oh I'm not saying it's fair, but the show's producers/creators have never claimed to be making anything other than a show which centres around the relationship between Merlin and Arthur so sadly the female characters are secondary to that.

Re Mists of Avalon, read them in publication order not in chronological order, the first book is the self titled Mists of Avalon. One of the best alternative interpretations of Arthurian fiction ever written imho. The series fades a bit towards the end as MZB was becoming ill but the first three are all very good.

True, Guinevere is still very much a sidelined "baddie/enemy" but that's more down to the conflict between the pagan religion and Christianity than anything else.

OK, adding them to my Christmas list. Thanks all for the recommendation and the info. :)

If uther doesn't tell Arthur tonight he's harbouring a warlock there has got to be a bloody good explanation for it.

well it seems ridiculous that Uthur knew what Arthur had been doing as King yet didn't know Merlin had magic.

Really want that to happen! I've been holding off buying any of the series boxsets in the hope that they'll release one of those. It'll be my only slight disappointment if they do a series 6, I'll have to wait even longer! :p

I think the music in Merlin is amazing, the composers manage to do epic and comical with the same high standards.

I was hoping you might "fate" me with the perfect diet to reach 120 years, I definitely have the free will! :D

Sorry, I can't that might be practicing medicine and I'm licensed only in a couple States in the US. ;)

But, if I were Gaius and, Merlin or Arthur, Gwen or Morgana asked about what to consume to minimize the risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and high blood pressure AND he or she was descended from Picts, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, or Friesians, my response would be that would depend on the Body Mass Index (BMI) and the age.

Gaius could calculate the BMI here:

    http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

A normal BMI is between 19 and 25. From there you can determine the number of calories to consume to maintain, gain, or lose weight here:

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/453361-how-to-calculate-a-calorie-diet/

And, choose a diet that Merlin, Arthur, Gwen or Morgana can stay on but to emphasize foods that make them feel full (satiety) which are foods a lot of volume (bulk) and few calories (low calorie dense foods like unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, meats, and milk products) instead of high calorie dense food (like corn chips).

The total calories could be determined and divided for either a daily basis (like the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association Diets), or a weekly basis (like Jenny Craig?) or a monthly basis (NutriSystems?). (Yes, that's the secret of those diets, a lot of commercial diets are based on the ADA/AHA meal plans but calculated for weeks or months instead of days.)

Here's an example based on serving size:

    MEALPLAN01.jpg

And, here are substitutes for each serving:

    MEALPLAN02.jpg

And, here's an example of what a "serving" size looks like:

    SERVING.jpg

The same ideas should hold for for people of any age but they might want to do more in terms of supplements so for MERLIN people:

16-30 years old: like MERLIN, ARTHUR, GWEN, MORGANA: they should supplement their diet with foods containing luteins, Vitamins: (at minimum): FA, C, E, D (FACED= Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin D); and for the women iron.

A good source of this: green leafy vegetables or berries. One serving every 5 days should do it. If they were in our world, that would be a multivitamin (with iron for the ladies) daily and either a serving of berries or the vegetables.

Optional: Epsom salts (Magnessium and Sulfate) baths once every 7 days. They act as biochemical co-factors.

31-40 years old: like Aggravaine and Katrina, it would be pretty much the same but they should have a fish or seafood meal once every 7-10 days, the Epsom salts baths aren't optional, and they should start doing memory exercises.

41-50 years old +: like Uther, it would be the same as a 40 year old but now he'd need additional trace elements like Copper, Iodine, Magnessium, Manganese, and Selenium and the fish dinners would increase to once every 5-7 days. If Uther were around in the real world that would mean a "silver" vitamin like Centrum silver or One-a-day silver.

Warning: the information above is restricted solely for the fictional characters of MERLIN. You should always discuss dietary and other health concerns with your physician.

    This one?

    http://www.sfx.co.uk/2011/08/18/merlin-first-look-morgana%E2%80%99s-new-costume-for-series-four/

Morgana's outfit looks like a sleeved emerald green lace dress over an emerald green tunic. Ask in this thread for places to purchase this:

    http://www.fanpop.com/spots/merlin-on-bbc/answers/show/206682/where-can-find-morgana-gwen-costume

    This site was mentioned,

But, if you're handy with needle and thread, you might be able to make your own in a craft or sewing section.

    Rennfaire things are popular:

No, I'm not into that sort of thing but I ran into them during action figure collections... a lot of times you'd have nothing else if you wanted a period figure. McCalls and Simplicity had some. Libraries often had period dress costumes reference books. And, there are on line patterns some of them for free like these:

    http://www.reddawn.net/costume/patterns.htm

    Hope that helps...

Have a look on eBay, there's a few shops which make medieval style clothing on there, a friend of mine bought her wedding dress via one but I can't remember the damn name of the shop.

I made one earlier in this year - it's essentially a turquoise under-dress, the spiderweb dress over the top and a black corset. The spiderweb dress is the most difficult part. I made that because I simply couldn't find anything suitable.

Also, there was a radio interview with Alex (Mordred) today where he mentioned the battle we all know is coming and claimed that he believed the finale was going to air on Christmas Eve...

Was that interview on BBC radio Wales? I've found this timetable (look at 1pm) but it's not up yet: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio/bbc_radio_wales/today

Radio Wales is the English version of Radio Cymru isn't it? I'd love to learn Welsh but I don't think I'd have time before they take it down off iplayer ;)

I wonder if the series finale will be a two-parter again this year... I wonder what the title will be.

So far, my favourite episode of Series 5 has been 'The Death Song of Uther Pendragon' - but I think that the 'Merlin has...!' will return in the series finale or some when during this series or the next at some point. I can't wait until Arthur finally finds out the truth. I have a feeling that the reveal will be surprising, with Arthur turning around and saying something like: "You're still useless though...!" or something like that. It would be fantastic to hear Arthur saying that he had a feeling all this time that Merlin had magic and he was keeping it a secret as he is his 'best friend'.

I really want a reveal and I would hope that even if it's not a priority for the writers they recognise that it would be a popular move. I don't think that the "Merlin has..." thing will come back, Arthur was rather distracted at the time. Even if it does, Merlin can just wave it away with a lie, although I must admit I can't think of one that would be significant enough for it to be Uther's last words.

Wow, Bradley James and Katie McGrath look really good together. Someone should put them in some sort of Nick and Nora show (The Thin Man movies, anyone?).

And 5.03 had a slightly higher share of the audience than 5.02, so there were less viewers overall for that night. It will be interesting to see what total viewing numbers will be.

"So far, my favourite episode of Series 5 has been 'The Death Song of Uther Pendragon' " Me too.:)

I posted an interview of Alex Vlahos. It's on youtube. Fast forward to about 9:35-9:40.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZKDgJLB59Q

    He mentions the
Battle of Camlann being the last episode of the series (though it's unclear if it's just for S05 or the whole thing).

    Photos for Another's Sorrow:

    Episode synopsis:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/proginfo/2012/45/merlin-ep5.html

It looks like Arthur meets the MERLIN equivalent of the Morrigan? or at least 3 witches in this episode:

The Disir. "Special guest stars include Frances Tomelty, Sian Thomas, Helen Schlesinger as the Disir and Andrew Tiernan as Osgar."

The only thing I learned about this episode was how beyond glad I am that Uther is dead. Seriously, why did he have to be such a prick, even in the afterlife?

At least someone from the main cast (formerly) knows about Merlin actually having magic. Too bad the other main cast still don't know a thing about him magically.

Nice scenes with Merlin and Arthur throughout the episode. Everyone else was pretty underused, though it was nice of Perceival to get a few lines too.

Better than the two part opening but this series seems to be playing it too safe so far, 8/10.

That episode sounds exciting, I wonder what the ultimate sacrifice will be and what merlins actions that come at the highest price, I really hope it's the magic reveal

Considering it's Arthur personally they seem to have a problem with I suspect it's his stance on magic coming to bite him in the arse again.

Not sure what the price etc is referring to...

I'm wondering if this will be the episode
in which one of the knights dies? Although that wouldn't necessarily tie in with Merlin having to make the decision and it being Arthur's "greatest sacrifice".

WARNING: There's a really big spoiler in my spoiler tag.
