Brilliant show. Along with Bates Motel and Under the dome, it has to be one of the best new shows to come from the states this year. Both Michael and Lizzy are brilliant in the roles and deserve Golden globe and emmy nominations. The supporting and guest cast are brilliant as well. I love how even though it is about sex, it isn't over the top and the sex scenes are not even as explicit as i thought they would be
If they'd increased the sleaze factor and add a few musical numbers it could have been the work of Dennis Potter. I half expected to see a Lipstick on your Collar style Roy Hudd appear.
I was thinking that, I am a fan of Dennis Potter's work & have watched everything by him
HIlariously, C4 cut some of the sex out of this week's episode.
What show did they think they were buying?
Reminds me of when they bought the rights to Angel - a vampire show - and aired it at tea time, utterly shredded, as they didn't want to show vampires doing vampirey things.
I guess now they've stopped making their own shows all they can do is ruin other people's.

I have only seen the Showtime version of the episode. What specifically did Channel 4 cut out?
But it's on at 9 post watershed, why would they need to cut it?
Is that why it's moving to 10 because some people seem to think that the watershed is variable, so just past should be quite clean whilst an hour past can show more?

I questioned the content of this programme in a 9pm slot earlier in this thread and was pretty much told I was mad, but it turns out I was right.
Although the watershed is 9pm there is some consideration given to what time a programme is actually broadcast if it contains adult content. For example Ofcom are less likely to object to strong sex scenes at 10:05pm than they are at 9:05pm. It doesn’t matter if you agree with it or not, those are the rules at Ofcom and a number of their monthly bulletins refer to it. I’m not surprised Channel 4 have been editing the programme for a 9pm slot, I more or less assumed it was going to happen.

Exactly - how bloody ridiculous is that?! (I assumed it was going to get sexier, hence the move to 10 - announced in sonorous tones by the C4 presenter, lol.) C4 has always been the 'bravest' channel - Queer As Folk? The Red Triangle series?
I must admit US TV has got braver - I remember when the Sex & The City girls were all bonking in their bras (as if!), yet last night we had boozy boobs on full view....... (The Fred Phelps/fundie brigade must be having coronaries.)

you obviously don't remember the channel 5 launch. wall to wall nipple with the red shoe diaries and the like.
much to my surprise i discovered recently that some women do have sex with their bras on, and sleep in them, and lie in bed with the duvet covering their boobs. if you ever get the chance to have a go on such a girl don't bother.
In the US the premium cable channels like showtime that broadcast this, and HBO are pretty liberal with boob and even occasional muff. it's the regular networks that are prudish. blame the tea party.

I'm talking 'serious' channels, not Richard Desmond's Page 3 fantasy world. :D:D (Next minute, we'll be talking about topless darts on L!VE TV, lol.....)

You are obviously more discerning than me in respect of quality and where you get your boob.

How ironic that they've recently been running an advert about how ballsy they are and that they were "born risky"...
Without being rude, are we 100% certain that they actually cut the episode? It's possible that it seemed stronger on initial viewing that it actually was...

Both of which aired at 10pm though, not 9pm (from memory). Its not a case of ‘Masters of Sex’ being too explicit for Channel 4, just that its too explicit for 9pm. I thought it was odd scheduling from the very start. I’m sure it’ll air uncut at 10pm.
Is it ridiculous? Maybe. But what can be shown at 9pm is different to what can be shown at 10pm… and Channel 4 should have considered that when they scheduled it!
It is ridiculous that people have these attitudes to sex in 2013 when they can show people being murdered in all sorts or gory and violent ways at 9pm.

maybe i'm watching too much porn. but it has never seemed that explicit to me.

Showtime @SHO_Network
EXCITING NEWS: #Showtime has picked up #Homeland and #MastersOfSex for new seasons! Both series are set to return in 2014.
Hopefully Sky won't snaffle it from Channel 4...
He is a great character actor. Loved him playing Kenneth Williams in Fantabulosa he gets under the skin of the character.
(So just who is Libby pregnant by, hmm?!)

Good job Showtime on renewing this.

Was it censored because he was eating her ******?

there are nipples and implied sex acts.
Exactly. I don't know what people are getting so worked up about. It's hardly Deep Throat.
