At least in this case it was clearly explained that she was using protection (the pill) but her bipolar meds interfered with them and made them inaffective. Bit weird that someone on long-term bipolar medication didn't know this though - she was in a relationship when she first returned to the show (with that Busted guy) - wasn't she on the pill then and why did her meds not interfere with it then?
As someone else mentioned (in this thread or another), it's still a bit irresponsible for her to stop using other forms of protection to prevent STIs so quickly into a new relationship. She must really trust Martin's sexual health.

I totally agree all your points. She had a termination some years ago so surely she would have made sure that she was protected against becoming pregnant again in the future.
And it seems ridiculous that all these soap characters who are bonking all over the place don’t seem to get the fact that you may be on the pill but that does not protect you against STIs. I can only guess at what horrendous smells must be emanating from the knickers of the characters in soaps. Industrial strength genital warts...and that’s just for starters! YUK!

No, no one in any soap does
That would be powerful tv

Rumours that the baby yawned on hearing this have yet to be confirmed
