    Pink Floyd.

Half a vote for Fleetwood Mac as they were half American.

The original Fleetwood Mac were all male and all British and for me significantly better than the male-female Anglo-American AOR combo they evolved into.

I'm in total outrage that JLS aren't on the list.

In terms of influence, song quality and their prolific output, it has to be The Beatles.

Quite a few run them close, but they really can't be matched.

You've got cocking Coldplay but no Led Zep, Sabbath, Motorhead or Clash?

With One Direction in there why pick on Coldplay?

    The Beatles.
Was amazing how much they changed in those 7/8 years, it was like having a lifelong career being fit into less than a decade.

    It depends what greatest means.

In terms of achievement, influence, and legacy, The Beatles win.

There are many other great British bands, and greatness has to cover sales, worldwide popularity, and longevity of legacy. One Direction just miss out for me.

I think the big five are,

    The Beatles
    The Rolling Stones
    The Who
    Led Zeppelin
    Pink Floyd

There are may others that had huge success, such as Queen, Black Sabbath, The Moody Blues, Genesis, Deep Purple etc.

I feel your pain. Why is Vanilla not on the list? They have it all - vocals, looks, the moves and much more! Take note of the heart rendering lyrics on this fantastic song. Vanilla are the complete package:

id add the yardbirds, overlooked but were at the forefront of musical pioneering in the 60's, and not just for a host of impressive musicians that played with them.
