Eh ? Why on earth would Five Live want to cover a Conference match between a mid table side who can't make the play-offs and one who are already relegated ?

Makes no sense at all to me.

How friendly is CT with Luton chairman(& Midlands Today presenter) Nick Owen?

Their paths wouldve crossed at both ATV & TVAM surely?

Yes, what this was is that Radio 2 are doing a season on the human voice and all the presenters - of which Tarrant is one this week, standing in for Steve Wright - are doing stuff for it, so Alex Lester was learning to sing, Ken Bruce was learning accents and Tarrant was challenged to broadcast in various different styles, including sports reporting. He played bits on his show this afternoon.

Obviously the match wasn't important in the grand scheme of things but the reports weren't interrupting live sport and it's not as if fans of the clubs were expecting conventional reports so it was just a bit of fun.

Ian Dennis confirmed tonight that he's only on 606 till the end of the season. Darren Fletcher is on his own tomorrow night so I wonder if that's a test for next season (if he's not on BT)

Was surfing around Tune-In App this evening trying to find football commentary of interest. Unfortunately, despite Valencia v Malaga being on KO 9pm, there was no coverage on Global and it was just music non-stop. Just in case I have the wrong station, I have been listening to "Global Radio 96.5". However, I noticed several (5 or 6 at least) Spanish language stations in Malaga broadcasting it, which seemed it bit OTT coverage. How are Spanish radio rights done, does anyone know?

So I tried to find some MLS instead... Toronto FC v Houston Dynamo was being broadcast on TSN 1050 Toronto. Only caught the very end (including Houston's equaliser) and so didn't get who was commentating. However the co-commentator had an English accent (or similar!) so not sure who that was.

After that I found Arlo White commentating on Seattle Sounders v Colorado Rapids (11pm KO). The station relaying it was a local news station there KIRO Radio 97.3FM. By the sound of the commentary, it was direct from the TV feed. You could tell it was meant for TV as Arlo described Obafemi Martins' goal as "and that is the first time we've seen THAT celebration this season" and then didn't describe it at all!

So, are there any other stations that broadcast games in English that you can get on Tune-In?? I know of Global and Radio Barca in Spain and the two MLS ones I mentioned.

Did you try Talk Radio Europe's stream? I tend to go through their TuneIn feed (which I have linked to a few pages back if you search the thread) as in my experience Malaga games haven't always been streamed via Global Radio when they have been through TRE. Going by Twitter, they were covering last night's game with the usual team of Paul Breen-Turner, Chris Williams and Kenny Jones.

Believe it or not, the Seattle Sounders' broadcast a single commentary across TV and radio on all of their games that are broadcast regionally on TV as opposed to nationally, so this will have been what you heard. The Sounders' commentator these days is no longer Arlo White but another former BBC Radio Derby broadcaster in Ross Fletcher.

    League One
Coventry City v Leyton Orient - Chris Coles and Dave Bennett (3pm commentary in Coventry & Warwickshire)

    TCR 106.8FM

Mike Thomas presented The Sports Zone from The Lamb

    Conference Premier
Tamworth v Woking - Nigel Vaughan and Mike Thomas (5.15pm partial commentary)

I listened to a bit of TCR's coverage of Tamworth's relegation decider yesterday evening, which basically amounted to spells of commentary around records and commercial breaks during a music programme (albeit a specially extended one, I think The Sports Zone usually goes out between 3-6pm but went on until 7.30pm yesterday), the main commentator being Tamworth's stadium announcer. Having said that, considering TCR is a small community radio station serving the town I felt it was a very good effort given their limited resources and remit.

And I believe TCR was the only station covering the game. I was disappointed that it didn't appear as if BBC WM even had a reporter at The Lamb with their sports coverage ending at 6pm as per usual. Loathed as I am to criticise WM given their massively improved coverage of Walsall this season and the way in which they have adapted and indeed improved their speedway and cricket coverage despite the influx of networked programming this year, I do think they should have provided some coverage on what was a vital game for the area's sixth biggest football club. I'm not unrealistic enough to expect them to ditch the post-match hour to do full commentary on the game, but it would have been nice if perhaps they could have sent someone there, carried first half updates and then done commentary on the second half by extending WM Sport for an extra hour or so. Nevertheless TCR did a good job in the absence of any BBC coverage.
