Don't tell anyone but apparently this song as gay connotations.
Hard to believe how clueless we all were back then. I had no idea it was (Greenwich) Village People and all the members of the band were based on gay stereotypes. Though only one of the members (The Cigar Store Indian) was in actual fact gay.

And ironically the Native American guy looked the least gay out of that bunch.
I like the Billy Joel version of Just The Way You Are but I detest this! >:(>:(
Agreed! Like the song and like BW, but the two just didn't go together (think his voice is too deep for the song). However, the spoken intro of BW's version, which wasn't played, is superb! Strange he released it as a single so soon after Joel's version.
So we started with someone killed in a car crash, ended with someone contemplating suicide and had someone dying in "Song for Guy"! Cheerful show, TOTP!

Great edition. '79 is going to be good.
We got all that talk out of our systems about Village People about 6 months ago, remember.

My God that is a powerfully emotional song. A slight welling up as I end this fine TOTP here. This made me bawl aged 9 when it was a hit.
I love Baker Street, but I agree, I don't get the love for Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick at all.
Faye :D:D Will you join us on t'Daily?

For once I agree with you Rich! (Though Grease's "Hopelessly Devoted to You" was just as good.)
"Emma" was even worse. I think Hot Chocolate were the disco Joy Division

Ditto!
For some reason this really made me giggle.
No they aren't. (Well, not all of them.)
Edit: beaten to it.
I didn't - but strangely I do now! - Am I regressing?
Is it finally going to become a hit, shooting into No25 at the weekend with a bunch of downloads.

BIB: That's very true! As for other bit -
The Sisters of Mercy did a cover of Emma of all people!
Doubtful. The comments aren't exactly enthusiastic...
