Can you do the splits?

When i entered the toilets earlier my right foot slipped out from under me on the tiled floor, whilst my left foot, which was still on the carpet, remained stationary. I did the classic splits.

This unplanned manouevre stretched the muscles of my undercarriage beyond acceptable limits and i can still feel the burn now. My adductor longus is not happy.

My accidental 180 degree posture should have pleased me because ever since i'd witnessed Jean Claude Van Damme in Bloodsports (i believe this movie has highest splits-to-non-splits ratio ever) i'd wanted to to the splits. Watching Kickboxer just exacerbated this desire.

I did phone the Gym up once to see if I could call in so that they could help me do the splits. They asked how flexible i was. I said 'I can't do Tuesdays'.

How flexible are you?

We can all do the splits. The question is; "Who can walk normally after?" . :o

I used to be able to hit a side split (on both sides) when I was a martial artist but I could never do a full box split.

    Old bastard now.

Obviously the normal splits are too tame for you lot so i will raise the stakes and ask if anyone here can achieve the Oversplit, in which the angle between the legs exceeds 180 degrees?

I can do them, but usually when drunk. Then the next morning i wake up wondering why it hurts when I pee. All of my lady area has become strained :)

If I see someone doing the splits It makes me feel squeamish. No good can come of it.

I'm pretty flexible considering my size, I can't do the splits but if I stand straight-legged (feet together) and bend over I can put my palms on the floor and it doesn't hurt.

    Yes, this! :D

I used to be able to it easily when I went to karate as a boy but I wouldn't dare try now...

Yes, accidentally when doing my daily Pilates workout. Much to my surprise. No bad after effects at all.

Not anymore but I did used to be able to do the splits all ways. Bizarrely, I've never been able to touch my toes though.

Side Splits and Box Splits are the same thing. What you could do was Front Splits.

    Anyway...

Yes, I can (usually). Not feeling loose at the moment though.

Do you need to feel loose whilst doing the splits?

Maybe that's where i'm going wrong.

As in supple. My legs are sore and stiff due to too much computer and TV.

I must say though, it does have limited practical application.

I wonder when it would come in useful outside the sporting arena.

Maybe measuring the width of your hallway when your arms aren't long enough?

Not without almost killing myself with pain, but I can do the thing of tucking my feet into my armpits quite easily.

    No chance.

    I'd end up in A&E.

I said to the gym instructor: 'Can you teach me to do the splits?'
He said: 'How flexible are you?'
    I said: I can't make Tuesdays.'
