Trouble is that too many groups are pushing their idea for public TV ....like
1) MP's and their backers are pushing for space for communication companies.
2) Sky which has is hands in to Freeview and other groups.
3) OFCOM
And they all forget that TV is one of most important service for society in that it can give people cheap entertainment into there homes because most people don't large incomes that they pay any price for they entertainment 24/7 .
TV can give the public hope, happiness, education, ideas, enjoyment, news and escapism from they life, and help the ill and old too.
It's nice to see that in the last few years that public TV has grown with more choice and given devices that can keep people updated with all there best shows by recording, players using internet.
BUT all I see is the idea to push as many to pay service like Sky ( Now TV ), Virgin, BT, PlusNet, Talk Talk, and others by reducing the number channels and that's what is going on with DSO 2 ( SHAME )
When will Channel 5 HD come to Freeview ( Easter may be good idea )
There shouldn't be a reduction in channels, in fact with DVB-T2 and AVC encoding there should actually be more space available than now! Yes the BBC are deciding to cut some services but that's a different matter.
DSO 2 is about having to put the multiplexes that carry our terrestrial tv into a smaller space and getting a maximum return on doing so.
Virgin Media have been informed that their BBC3 feed will cease on 31/3/16 and it is believed that the satellite feed will close two days later.
After the full cessation of BBC3, it will be interesting to see if the BBC have actually made a commercial agreement with Viacom as has been mooted.
Maybe we will see Channel 5 HD launch on 1/4/16 or perhaps 4/4/16 to give them a few days to sort out any technicalities with the various platforms?
If the feed is ceasing on the 31st then the last day will be the 30th (as BBC3 doesn't broadcast during the day). So they *could* make the necessary changes for 5HD then.
BBC Three and BBC Three HD are being removed from the Virgin Media EPG on March 31st, so if we can assume that BBC Three and BBC Three HD will also be removed from the Freeview EPG and Freesat EPG on the same date, it seems plausible that Channel 5 HD may launch on Freeview and Freesat the following day, April 1st.

People are still making a connection between the removal of BBC Three HD and the launch of Channel 5 HD with no evidence at all other than speculation. As has been said several times, Channel 5 is not automatically entitled to the LCN. Maybe I will be proved wrong but I would still be surprised if Channel 5 HD launched on LCN 105 as soon as BBC Three HD vacated the slot.
And people who have suggested that PSB3 would be used are also missing the point that BBC Three HD shares the slot with CBBC HD on PSB3, so CBBC HD would also need to move somewhere

Yep, however from a PR standpoint adding C5 HD on the day BBC3/HD disappears means that we're not losing an HD channel. C5 will be keen to be on 105, and won't want to launch on a different number only to be moved there after a few weeks. So.. It will be nice if it does happen then, but I'm not holding my breath.

There is space on PSB3 even without BBC3/CBBC HD vacating, but even so you're right that it might go on a different mux.
Until we get an official statement it is all just speculation

There's room for it even with CBBC HD staying, and PSB3 would ensure nationwide coverage, even on relays.
There's nothing concrete yet, but everyone would agree that LCN 105 and PSB3 would be the most logical step for a CH5-HD launch.

True.

Since when has logic had much to do with Freeview? More often that not, it's what is achievable or what makes business sense that matters, logic comes a distant second (if that).
What return of Gotham? Series 2 has been running without a break on Mondays on Channel 5 for a number of weeks. It's there tonight
Ah, unlike the first season then? Seasons 1 & 2 were shot in two parts and the second part of Season 2 ("Wrath of the Villains") only recently returned to American TV after a long hiatus. I wrongly assumed Channel 5 had followed suit. That would explain why Channel 5 waited so long before airing Part 1 of Season 2 ("Rise of the Villains").

There is currently capacity going unused which would mean that they could squeeze they equivalent of 7 HD channels on PSB 3, some is being used for Film 4 +1 but there is still space for another full time HD channel and 1 or 2 more SD channels. Yes quality might suffer but unlikely more than it is currently as they are already restricting it.

32% free even with BBC Three still running. Plenty of space for C5.
But as has always happened in the past it may well come to nothing. I reckon they try these tricks to try and convince Sky to up their offer for a new deal to keep HD behind the paywall.
It's behind a paywall but it isn't locked into a long term Sky contract, it appears to be a month by month rolling contract so they can effectively go FTA whenever they choose.
They wouldn't have made all the effort to move the channel onto their own satellite space away from Sky and switch playout to themselves instead of Sky and apply for a DTT licence (which if they don't act on is a waste of time, effort and money) all for nothing.

That's what someone has speculated in the Freesat forum but no-one really knows what's going on for sure.
If it doesn't launch on Freesat/Freeview early in April there's going to be some disappointed people on this forum; but then another rumoured date will come along.

And, Channel Five's past record under previous ownership notwithstanding, it would not be the first time that a channel has been granted a Freeview licence and never make it to air.
Exactly the same answer as they would have given you five years ago then.
No, they used to say that they intend to launch on Freesat/Freeview in the future but have no plans at present. Saying now that "they are working on plans" to launch "in due course" gives a distinct impression something is afoot.

I hope for the sake of Gotham fans who haven't yet seen it that it coincides with the start of the second half of Season 2.

They only commented that they were working on plans to bring Channel 5 HD to digital terrestrial television in due course.
