This thread is bringing back some good memories.
One of my favorite long tracks is the Clouds & Rain Suite by David Gates. This and other long tracks do often get played on Caroline.
Last xmas, Capital played the full 9 and a half minute version of Light My Fire by the Doors on the Top 500.
The one on the 1st album is 6 and a half minutes and I heard Smooth Radio London playing that daytime during it's first week on the air. Caroline must have played a live version or an alternate cut.

Today out of the midday news I played Frankie goes to Hollywoods' Welcome to the Pleasuredome 12" mix which ran to 13.35mins.
Aren't you a community station?
It's nice to know these charitably and publicly-funded radio stations are making such great use of the airwaves given to them. I wish Ofcom would go round and content-sample a few of these outfits at random.
I've heard Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt 1 played on the radio , it might even have been on Radio 2 !
Without wanting to be pedantic (okay, that's a lie, I love being pedantic), the portion that's on side 1 of the Wish You Were Here album is parts 1-5, and the portion that's on side 2 is parts 6-9.
Pink Floyd's, Shine On You Crazy Diamond has to have the longest song intro in history but I've not heard it played on UK radio .
It depends what you mean by "intro" really. If you mean from the start until the vocals come in then it's 8 minutes 48 seconds according to my MP3, but there's an awful lot that goes on before that. And if the bit until the vocal is the intro then the whole of the Atom Heart Mother Suite (23 minutes 31 seconds) is an "intro".
There must be loads of 1950s rock and roll numbers that come in well under the two-minute mark - Elvis's "That's All Right Mama" is only about 1.30, isn't it?
Or how about stations that badly edit long songs, or even normal ones. A few weeks ago, Invicta inexplicably decided to rip the classic U2 Where the Streets Have No Name intro to shreds. So badly edited.
Meatloaf life is a lemon and I want My Money Back as well as the full 7 mins version of jefferson airplane Miracles are played often overnight on delta fm 97.1
Chris Evans played the full version of The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again the other week, all 8½ minutes of it at about half past five on a Friday afternoon. Marvellous!.
Alan Freeman used to play long album tracks back in the early - mid 70s, but it was almost expected then. Joey by Dylan, at 11+ minutes made it onto the last show, as did a 13 minute Genesis track, and a few others.
That understated talent Mr Richard Allinson used to play "full length" songs on his Saturday show a while back - insofar as he played Forever Autumn lifted directly from the War of the Worlds, including dialogue and the transition to the Thunderchild.
In general over the years here is a list of some of the longest AND shortest songs I have heard on Radio in uk

Shine on you crazy diamond , Echoes by Pink Floyd.
I think theres a fairly lengthy version of Layla that I've heard on the radio too.
My fav is Stairway to Heaven which isn't that long.
That version can be found on an album called "layla & other assorted love songs"
One of my favorite long tracks is the Clouds & Rain Suite by David Gates. This and other long tracks do often get played on Caroline.
"Caroline" and "The Light" by Jefferson Starship from the "Earth" and "Windows of Heaven" albums - both over 5 minutes each - and good songs too.
The one on the 1st album is 6 and a half minutes and I heard Smooth Radio London playing that daytime during it's first week on the air. Caroline must have played a live version or an alternate cut.
lovely track:)

What about shortest songs played on air?
Del Amitri "Roll To Me" must be up there.
Badly set-up automation systems quite often stick Song 2 before the news.
And the classic hits/oldies stations play Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles.
It is only about 2'05 duration, isn't it?
Adam Faith What Do You Want's pretty useful. Around 1.35 I think.
