Watch Dogs - Any Good?

I bought the digital version of this out of impulse and stupidly never got round to playing it!

Is it any good? I've been put off playing it as people have said it doesn't live up to the hype.

I love games like GTAV, Sleeping Dogs, Saints Row, Far Cry 3, so is this worth a playthrough? What exactly do you do?

Thanks

You're gonna get some mix responses. Some will say they love it, others will say it's complete trash. I am going to just list the pros and cons.

The main missions/campaign is excellent - varied, well constructed, and reminds me of Arkham games in some ways. The side missions such as the gang hideouts are amazing and it's so fun to adapt your take downs according to if you've been discovered or not. There are some excellent construction/level designs with the gang hide outs which will give you the mental challenge of figuring out how you're going to approach stealth. It's also lot of fun to unlock towers that reveal items on the map and some of the puzzle solving side quests are really fun, as well as the hack solving missions. There is some good characterisation with the male characters and you'll come to even love a few. The random conversations of strangers are very entertaining and some even a bit tragic.

However, the majority of the side missions are taken up by "convoy" contracts which are just the WORST. Soooo repetitive and dull and you'll be tearing your hair out by the time you get to the 35th convoy mission. Sadly, you'll need to do these side missions to upgrade skills that will ultimately serve you in the main campaign. Also, the driving is horrendous. It's like driving on ice, so bad. The graphics overall are terrible and nowhere near as good as GTA 5 last gen. Now, some are in denial of this. Whatever. In my opinion, the graphics are PS2 esque.

So, if that all sounds ok to you then give it a shot. You've already bought it so might as well give it a try.

I agree with the point re the driving it's really bad . However I quite enjoy the convoy missions and hate the hacking mini games . Quick question though . In the missions where you chase someone and hack the data do you always need to hack or can you take out the driver first ?

Yep, you can kill the driver first as long as his/her phone is intact. In fact, I remember crashing into the driver sending him flying to his death. Walked up to his corpse and hacked lol

I wouldn't say it's a bad game, just for what ever reason I'm not sure about, I just couldn't get into it.

Messing about with the lights and causing mayhem was fun for a bit, but that wore off for me lol.

Neither. Xbox 360. But I've seen it on PS4 version and it's still unacceptable for next gen in terms of graphics. Apparently, Ubisoft deliberately downgraded the graphics for PC because at the time next gen consoles could not handle it so they didn't want the next gen consoles look bad in comparison.

Also, I recommend playing Watchdogs on 'hard' difficulty or even higher just for more of a challenge.

I'm playing it now and I'm really enjoying it. The driving is awful but after a while you get used to it. The main missions are challenging enough and the plot keeps me interested enough. Like someone said the gang hideouts are the best side missions, I found myself just doing gang hideout missions so had to mix it up. It's great fun losing fixers or police by using blockers or blowing up steam pipes.

    :p

For me I'd probably agree that the graphics aren't as good as they hyped months and months back in regards to next gen, expected something brilliant and it doesn't quite reach that on the PS4. Saying they're terrible and PS2 graphics is going way overboard though mate.

I didn't think the graphics were that bad, ok not as good as we saw at E3 when they first showed the game but still good enough.

Developers always take a while to get to grips with a new console, as we saw with the 360 and PS3, the graphics gradually improves over time.

I thought it was good, not great.

As said above the driving is hideous, and it is completely impossible to just outrun the police, you have to use the hacks. It got to the point where I would just park up next to the nearest steam pipe/bollard to take them out, not much of a chase.

I really wasn't a fan of the story and thought Aiden was an arse, I didn't care about him at all.

I had an absolute ball with the spider tank though :D

Average. Not anywhere near as good as GTA V, but the worse thing for me is the story and Aiden.

Aiden is boring and the scanning paints every single bad guy as "Suspected of Child pornography", "Convicted for Domestic Abuse etc", and I'm yet to see one "Contractor just earning an buck to put kids through college. Yet I'm the bloke who injures people and robs them blind.

    Goodo.

And I didn't find the story compelling, so barely got past part 1 or 2 before getting bored and playing Skyrim.
