You have to go well back for the likes of Deacon Blue, Jesus & Mary Chain & Primal Scream. I suppose recently you have Franz Ferdinand & The Fratellis.

First ever post on DS! :D

    Do AC/DC count?

Angus, Malcolm and Bon Scott were all born in Scotland.:)

Jesus And Mary Chain by a mile for me, amazing band.

For me personally, The Jesus and Mary Chain would top the list.

Honorable mentions also to Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian and Teenage Fanclub.

Also one of my favourite bands of the last few years, Frightened Rabbit, are Scottish but I wouldnt really claim that they're in the "best ever" category just yet.

Primal Scream for me, and Garbage is a quarter Scottish... though I don't suppose that counts.

Are/were Big Country Scottish? Great band.

Big Country were yep, great band. I'd put them up there in my top half a dozen scottish bands as well.

Fish is Scottish, but I think the rest of Marillion were English and the band were formed in England so I don't think they'd really count. But they were great in the days that Fish was a member.

The Associates fronted by the late Billy Mackenzie were pretty great back in the day (the 80s).

I've been trying to forget Travis for about 10 years now :p

    For me its one of:

    The Blue Nile
    Belle and Sebastian,
    Mogwai
    Bis

But its hard to say. I would probably say one of:

    Eurythmics
    Skids
    Arab Strap
    Biffy Clyro
    Jesus and Mary Chain

If you asked me on another day.

Yeah, I'm not talking about Marillion. Fish has been solo since late eighties, so it's him and his band I speak of. Mind you, whether all of THEM are Scottish or not, I don't know. Perhaps best Scottish artist rather than band?
