Ricky Gervais - yay or nay?

Ricky's had a 'mixed response' at the Golden Globes.

I only know of two people who dislike The Office, both of whom are frankly a bit humourless.

The types who would probably make friends with Brent and Gareth :)

If you say nay, please say why.

Yay - thought his jokes at the GG were hilarious and quickly shared them with both my sons who also shared this view

    I think he's awful, too.

There's a certain type of person who'd probably think I'm humourless, though, because I don't like cringe humour and pranks and nastiness *shrug*

(Though I think I did read one thing he said last night that was funny...)

    Not sure really.

Loved the office, thought it was absolutely brilliant.

sometimes I think his humour is a bit inappropriate though.... it seems as if he says things his character "David Brent" would say...... even when he's being himself...

    ....if that makes sense?

Nay, he's like a cringey bestman giving a bad speech at a wedding and you just wish he would sit down.

i've worked in offices all my life, so i should "get" The Office.

but i didn't, and just find it crap. as for Gervais himself, i find him a bit of a fat, sweaty tosser to be honest

i prefer Harry Hill, who makes me laugh even with just one his stupid "asides to camera"

A bit unfair seeing as he's lost a few stone in recent times - now this criticism would be fair in the case of James Corden who unless he has Ruth Jones holding his hand is totally unfunny

Loved The Office. Like his stand up.

Hate the abomination that is the American Office. If he had any self respect he would have vetoed that.

Hate the self congradulatory Hollywood career and the self referencing Simpsons episode.

I can stand Gervais in small doses; usually when I'm at someone else's house and don't have control of the remote. Otherwise I probably wouldn't watch him.

I think he kind of peaked right at the beginning with The Office, which opened alot of doors for him but since then I've not found much of his stuff that funny.

As a comedy writer - very good
As a comedy actor - okay
    As a person - nob

Although I haven't met him, two of my friends have and both think he's a nob.

    Never seen the office.:o

Love his stand up routines. Liked the films he has been in as well. I like the way he makes people incomfortable.

    Thumbs up here.

Nay and thrice nay. Like Ross his humour is puerile and tacky.

Do we really want to hear him talk about masturbating himself in the middle of an awards ceremony which is supposed to be about celebrating great films and other art forms. If they want a funny Brit let Stephen Fry do it - funny without being gross and tacky!
