Beautiful, healthy female forms shown on the Olympics - excellent

I've been watching the Olympics a bit obsessively.

I think it's great to see all the athletes do their thing, but it just occurred to me that it was wonderful that our image obsessed young girls are being shown different images of the female form.

Not false, not anorexic, but healthy, varied and very beautiful

This can only be a good thing.

Do you think it could make a difference?

    I have to agree.

Many of the swimmers in particular have a healthy measure of meat about them - and very nice they look for it.

    Yep, healthy and strong girls.

I'm hoping it may give the 'fake' brigade food for thought.

Small boobs might even become perfectly acceptable:eek:

(Not that they aren't in many quarters).

It's probably a bit tricky trying to play sport with two footballs stitched into your chest.

    It wouldn't help.

But even naturally big breasted girls can excercise, enjoy themselves, and then they'd have it allllll.

    Damn 'em.:o

Yep, and ordinary girls need to realise that men like healthy and normal.

And a bit of body fat.

Is that a new, experimental bike she's sat on? It looks like it'd be a bugger to pedal round a track. Also, is that the official GB indoor cyclist kit?

It depends on your point of view. I suspect some people (mainly academic feminists) would criticise any reference to looks, particularly in regards to mentioning beauty. There are some who even find the visual attraction of somebody in intimate relationships troublesome.

Personally I see their point but I think they over think these things, having no regard to human nature.

Looks are there, beauty and charm are there, both male and female, old, young and in the middle.

I do think those that think it should be ignored and not acknowledged or even celebrated, are over thinking it.

I'm not beautiful, but I appreciate beauty - and beauty is more than looks too.

Only problem being that a lot of the young, impressionable girls who could probably benefit from a positive role-model might think it's a bit silly to spend 8 hours a day in the local swimming baths when they could be getting spray-tans, texting their mates, getting vagazzled and living the TOWIE dream. :(

    They already do though.

I was just hoping that they might see the best of 'normality' and accept themselves a bit, and go for a swim and do a bit of dancing or something, rather than fake it.

I'm not expecting them to be champion swimmers or athletes, just to see that, in a natural way, they are, or can be, fine.

    kinda patronizing really though.

you can't brainwash people that way. its like the women who like to say big is beautiful, people who talk like that aren't convincing anyone because everyone knows if something is true its kinda self evident, you dont' have to do convincing in the first place.

the whole role model thing is also kind of suspect. the truth is people only set their acceptability on what they see in real life around them, it is why studies show that if your friends are fat, you will more likely be as well. its also why western nations get ever fatter, it doesn't matter how many skinny models or olympic athetes they see on the tv..only matters in real life in daily reality.

as for super hard bodies being convincingly the "hottest" thing to men and thus something girls/women would obviously aspire to... not so much, its better than being fat sure, but you only have to look at porn to see that rippling muscles are hardly the most desired form. girls know this, you can't trick them so easily.

Tend to agree with Nefrati. There's pressure on girls to be slim if they want to be attractive to the opposite sex, but the media didn't create that. Ask most men if they'd prefer a slim or an overweight partner and they'll say slim. Just as most women would opt for a tall partner over a short one. The pressure comes from life as much as it does from the media.
