We've already had him as The oncoming Storm. As for the Valeyard, go check Wikipedia.
The beast is a good point.
From Simeon's POV he's seen all of the doctors lifespan though
Is the Beast the one from The Satan Pit? Surely not?!
Anyway, I'd love Hurt to be an aged version of the Eighth Doctor; the one who destroyed the Time Lords...but I don't think this is likely.
I hope he isn't a forgotten incarnation of the Doctor because I really don't want the continuity of the series screwed with that much. It would render the awesome title "The Eleventh Hour" totally meaningless.
I think its 8 after aging into Hurt! I think the Time War was so long, he didn't regenerate until the time lock and then he regenerated into Eccleston, maybe he used his regeneration to do it! 11 seemed quite understanding or sympathetic of the fact that he had 'no choice' in doing whatever he did!

Not at all. It's stated in the ep that he's the one that broke the promise, that he didn't act in the NAME of the doctor, therefore has probably got a different name, therefore Eccleston is still the 9th Doctor, as he's the 9th to act in his name.....
I am amazed there's any debate over this it appeared clear to me that he is the original man who later took the name "the doctor". As if the doctor is a persona used to move away from a darker past. a bit like a witness protection thing. Hurt being a bit of a baddie and the doctor his reformed character version. would makes the grumpy hatnell version make a bit more sense too.
I was convinced before i saw this thread, but now I'm doubting it slightly.
Except that has been mentioned above, and I mentioned in another thread, it was said that the name he chose, "The Doctor" was taken as a promise, a promise of how he would act, and Hurt was "the one who broke the promise".
You can't break a promise before you have made it, so he had to have already been called "The Doctor" when he did something naughty.

Yep I like the fact that that also explains the Valeyard's existence "between numbers"
Nine, and I think this would be the incarnation who fought in and ended the Time War. He'd have done a lot of terrible things during it and that's why the Doctor as we usually know him wanted to forget.
Yes he was there! Pointed out in another thread, he runs past Clara just before Two does in the pre credit sequence!
Yep, it was so unbelievably brief that if you blinked, you'd miss it, but he was definitely there.
Why he was in the same place as Troughton is beyond me though. Maybe the two teamed up just as Six and Two did?

I didn't think it meant they were together just that time was all jumbled up so it just appeared they were all there at the same time
No it makes no sense, that Doctor is in a parallel Earth with no Tardis...how would he have gotten to Trenzalore! It is also a secret of the Doctor's something he remembers doing and was so bad it reduced him to tears!
I think he's an aged Eight or Nine or the Valeyard. I can't see it being the last one because then the writers have painted themselves into a huge corner and have to end it, and I can't imagine the next one being that old.
So who is "The Storm, The Beast, The Valeyard" that Simeon was prophesying?
I voted time war Doctor.
If Hurt is now Doctor 9 then that means the Valeyard is due any time now. In fact I think we have already seen him. The Valeyard was a distillation of the Doctors dark side from around his 12th to 13th incarnation. Matt (now Dr 12?) met just such a manifestation during "Amy's choice" last year.
I think the "dream lord" represented the (re)birth of the Valeyard.

Maybe Hurt is a past Doctor but also The Valeyard (Hurt) could force his consciousness into a regeneration which becomes The Valeyard and as The Yaleyard was a Doctor between his 12th and 13th regeneration maybe when Matt regenerates he splits into two half's two bodies one good and one evil

I agree with this. Not a 9th Doctor as such, but the 9th body in reality without actually being counted in the numbering of the Doctors.

Indeed. They said 'the Valeyard' was between 'The Doctors' 12th and final incarnation. The precedence for this is right there
He said "What I did, I did in the name of peace and sanity".
Sounds like ending the Time War to me.
Maybe 10 and 11 will "kill" 8 causing him to regenerate into 9? (Which kinda launches the first series of new who)
Also I didn't 8 during Clara's run in with the various Doctors.
Oh well, only 6 months to wait.
like dax in dsn

I really cant see him being another doctor, a later doctor etc, it just messes things up.
Well this time it's different as the 11th remembered been him

Seeing John Hurt was the part of the programme I enjoyed most of all; I got very excited when I saw him.:)
but a older doctor would not work in this day and age i think.

Well, time could get rewritten and he might not end up regenerating into him after all.

Would for me.:)
