If John Oliver gets his own spin-off it should be a parody of Louis Theroux's documentaries
The gag will be that instead of expressing quiet revulsion at the neo-Nazis, extreme religious nuts, meth addicts etc.....that he meets, John Oliver will agree with them all.
Oliver has his own show on Comedy Central already which is a stand up variety show.
It's probably just as well that Jon took a break, he was dreadful over the trio of 'scandals' that hit Obama, totally bought the beltway narrative. Usually you can rely on the Daily Show to cut through the media BS but Stewart was at the forefront of it this time. I do wonder if he hasn't been distracted by preparations for his film in the last few weeks and so didn't have the time to actually for his own thinking on the issues. He hinted as much in his last show.
I didn't like the line right at the end last night where John said "We miss you Jon" - it came across as he was meant to say it. I hope it doesn't become a habit for the next few weeks - Oliver should be allowed to stand on his own.
I am sure that, if hapless Jon Stewart feels that time is marching on, and that he wants to attempt to direct a movie, good luck to him.... although he wont be missed from The Daily Show, I am surprised that the network should have opted for someone even less competent than Stewart in the guise of Oliver.

Yeah, some "hapless" guy. He's only had a hit show for almost 14 years.
Oliver is doing well on The Daily Show - it is actually nice to have a rest from Stewart who seems to have gone onto autopilot with his face pulling and knuckle biting etc.

Perhaps The Daily Show isn't for you.
