this morning i woke up to the dreaded "stop" fault, phoned up got an engineer coming out Monday, but in the meantime give it a another go later on see if it works...

so just come home now, turned it back on no stop fault instead the welcome screen and ld40... oh looks ok, so i`ll put kettle on...

min or 2 later, what that smell.. came in living room a STRONG smell of burning something, tv screen blank box blank, out of the left of the box SMOKE!!!! went to switch it off the box was HOT turned off on the wall smoke still coming out of it, unplugged all cables and left it to smolder in the garden.

phoned virgin to let them know, there answer "ok unplug the box and it will then not catch fire" i did that and the box is outside cooling down "but if it gets stolen you will be charged the cost of the box" hmmm looks like i`ll have my house burn down then

will get an email complaint sent of to head guy at virgin on monday along with this clip....

I have heard it's a known fault that occurs when the box is turned off. When it's in standby, the fan runs but not when it's off.

I very much doubt that's true, they would have been recalled in their thousands. Still, finally time to get that smoke-alarm put up...

The only way to turn the V+ off off (as opposed to standby) is to turn the power off at the mains as far as I know. Are you sure about this?

And what Timotei75 said of course....

whoops my mistake i clicked the wrong button.

the box was swapped over on Monday and the cable guy was gob smacked, when he saw the video, his boss wanted to see the video so now has a copy, and some tech guy has a copy.

i`m waiting to hear back from them to find out if they know why it went.
