Damn, there was me, thinking that because I praised her and knew enough about her, I would qualify as a mate.
But seriously, Well, in interviews, she calls herself Ali King - introducing herself in Castmates or on ITV teaser intervierws and what have you. Just like Katherine Kelly calls herself Kat Kelly. Just because its their professional name, it may be they prefer being known by a nickname. And since she hasn't told me she prefers Alison, I might stick with Ali
Reminds me of people calling Samantha Womack, Sam. Fans of hers know she likes to be called Sam so we call her Sam.
Same goes for Alison, she calls herself Ali, so the fans call her Ali. No big deal
dear god, does this really need a whole thread?!?!?!
It's just the name she goes by and so if you read a lot of her interviews or see a lot of video clips about her i guess you just get used to her being Ali rather than Alison.
But really, does it matter!

Sam sounds fine. 'Ali' doesn't. it sounds way too matey and worshipy.
Different show but similar example, on Hollyoaks Rhys is played by Andrew Moss. However on Twitter and in interviews etc he's referred to as Andy. I don't think me using Andy instead of Andrew in a comment implies I know him.
actually I always squirm a bit when people call the actors by the first names only or by nicknames as if they are mates with them , and its Ms C'orgasm to everyone if you don't mind
The reason its more irritating than other abbreviations is because its totally soft sounding. The first letter is a soft vowel second letter soft constant and the final letter is a soft vowel. Together they form a very irritating babyish sound

now that is a bit mad. whats wrong with calling them just by their first name?
Personally, I hate it when posters refer to actors rather than characters; my memory's getting terrible, and I haven't the faintest idea who they're talking about.
Even worse, of course, are those who mix the references, calling some by their acting name, and others by character name.
I can only assume they're feeding their egos by imagining it gives them some sort of "insider" status.
Sometimes I just do it because I'm too lazy to write their full name. but I mostly just use their character name unless I'm referring to the actor/actress I don't think there is anything matey about people get so touche.

I must admit I've cringed at the use of 'Ali' from time to time, but it doesn't really bother me. What's in a name?
I would know. I'm Sylar (scary intense face).

It's Digital Spy. Not DS
